We are looking for a candidate to join the Workplace Technology Engineering Collaboration team. We require a senior systems engineer with extensive experience in similar roles within large-scale, complex, global organisations. The candidate should be proficient in technology strategy and roadmap planning, technology engineering, technology lifecycle planning and delivery, product selection (including business case planning), and technical project delivery (from initial conception through to transition into production). Broader, complementary skills such as commercial awareness, evangelism, delivery focus, secure-by-design mindset, and strong operations and customer awareness complete the profile.
Specifically, with in-depth, architectural/design level experience with Microsoft M365, Email / Exchange, Colleague Data, SharePoint, Generative AI, Microsoft Copilot, Copilot agents, Power Platform, and related technologies.
You will be responsible for:
- Own and drive the design and adoption of collaboration technologies across multiple Infrastructure domains, ensuring engineering effectiveness and strategic alignment.
- Deliver new and effective technologies that enable Tesco colleagues to be more productive and efficient.
- Represent Infrastructure/Systems Engineering across all of Tesco Technology and with suppliers, demonstrating strategic and critical thinking in all interactions.
- Own and shape the direction of significant areas of value, with a strong emphasis on technology strategy and roadmap ownership.
You will need:
Prerequisites for RoleIdeally, the candidate should have 6 years in a senior IT technical role, with real-world demonstrable experience of technology delivery in the specific technology domain. In Tesco, this would mean 3-4 successful years in a Systems Engineer II role, having consistently demonstrated the core capabilities of a Systems Engineer III.
System Engineering SkillsDesign:
- Own and drive the architectural strategy and roadmap for collaboration technologies, M365, colleague data, Gen AI, and Copilot technologies.
- Drive the implementation of solutions that introduce new technologies into Tesco in line with our technology strategy and principles.
- Support the standards and guidance for new technologies.
- Influence product roadmaps for the technology area.
- Contribute to commercial arrangements when dealing with technology vendors.
- Ensure that solutions improve the security baseline of the collaboration offerings.
- Work with infrastructure Architects, Product Managers, and third-party consultants to ensure alignment of the solution and product strategy.
- Manage the full project lifecycle, driving a solution from conception to operational handover.

- Keep technical skills up to date and track new technologies.
- Design with automation in mind, creating solutions that minimise the amount of hands-on activity needed to fix issues.
- Define, analyse, plan, forecast, measure, maintain, and improve all aspects of the availability of services.

- Maintain awareness or knowledge of emerging technologies outside your specialism.
- Be aware of all high-impact changes and projects in Infrastructure Services and take proactive measures to ensure the stability of service.

Technology Understanding:Deep expertise in design, implementation, administration, configuration, and optimisation of M365 Services, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive for Business at scale. Have a solid background and experience with generative AI and Copilot solutions, including agents at scale. Have Domain Admin / Identity management experience at a large, complex global enterprise. Have expert-level knowledge of Power Platform and related technologies. Proven ability to migrate and manage data across local file storage, cloud platforms (Azure, M365), SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business, including large-scale enterprise migrations and hybrid environments. Have a deep understanding of data technologies, both on-premises and cloud. Have a deep understanding of data security, data archiving, data retention, data compliance, and data backup restore/recovery. Advanced skills in Power Automate, Power Apps, and Power BI for workflow automation, app development, and analytics, including governance of premium connectors. Strong knowledge of Azure Active Directory, Conditional Access, MFA, and implementation of security, compliance, and data loss prevention (DLP) policies across M365 workloads. Have exposure to VMWare and Azure virtual platform technologies. Have a general awareness of digital/modern workplace technologies. Have strong knowledge of Windows security and auditing, and up-to-date knowledge of Microsoft best practices around security practices and technologies. Proficient in PowerShell and other scripting languages for automation, reporting, and bulk operations within Microsoft 365 and Azure environments. Have advanced PowerShell scripting and automation skills focused on automation in the Windows Infrastructure/Platform space. Have a good understanding of networking and firewall concepts. Have a critical and strategic mindset, able to articulate a technology vision and underpinning roadmap. Expert-level understanding of Microsoft 365 licensing models, including enterprise agreements, user and device-based licensing, and feature entitlements across Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Power Platform, and Copilot. Experience with license assignment, optimisation, and compliance monitoring in large, complex environments. Ability to advise on cost-effective licensing strategies, manage renewals, and ensure alignment with business needs and Microsoft best practices. Familiarity with Microsoft admin portals, PowerShell, and third-party tools for license reporting and automation.
Finance & Commercials:Understand and initiate proof of concepts and pilot activities. Be able to support business cases by evaluating suitable products for their technology and commercial impact on Tesco and assist the business team in making the right decision. Understand how budgeting and procurement processes work in Tesco and effectively apply this knowledge in planning and influencing product roadmaps. Be able to structure and present a technology business case/proposal.
