We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Database Engineer to join our systems engineering teams here at Tesco UK. As a Mainframe Systems Engineer, you will be focused on DB2 Database Engineering. Your mission is to help our team in creating next-level solutions that will improve the way our business and customer products performance and management.

As an experienced Database Engineer, you will have deep knowledge of database design and development, helping to meet application teams' standards and satisfying both business and functional requirements. Your expertise in mainframe technology domains will be counted to solve complex and mission-critical problems internally. This position is for a DB2 Mainframe Database Engineer (MF zOS DB2 DBA) and is a member of the Database Engineering team in Infrastructure Engineering at Tesco PLC Ltd.

You will be responsible for:

  • Mainframe DB2 database design, system setup, implementation, managing practices, processes, and the tools that enable the business of Database development & maintenance.
  • Leading or participating in database management activities including designing highly complex logical and physical databases.
  • Implementing and maintaining the DB2 Databases with High Availability features using tablespace Partitioning.
  • Resolving database performance issues, database capacity issues, DR, and other data issues.
  • Planning for and executing required database upgrades or migrations.
  • Working with database admin tools like CA Platinum / IBM Admin tools.
  • Designing and implementing security solutions.
  • Developing management policies, procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Collaborating and consulting with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals.

You will need:

  • Expertise in Mainframe DB2 database design, infrastructure architecture disciplines, and business processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams and develop meaningful relationships to achieve common goals.
  • 10+ years of Mainframe DB2 DBA experience with an emphasis on Database Administration/Engineering, Database design, Performance monitoring & tuning.
  • Expert knowledge of DB2 for z/OS along with mainframe-related tools such as CA Platinum for monitoring, ISPF, SMS, SMF, REXX programming.
  • Exposure to DB2 DBA /zOS v12.
  • Capability of creating the roadmap, processes, best practices, standards, and strategies for continuous improvement, resiliency, and scalability.
  • Proven background in database engineering, automation, monitoring, performance engineering design, and implementations.
