Pay

Our Customer Delivery Driver rate of pay starts from £14.18 an hour; this increases to £15.45 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.

Hours

We offer a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, with the option to work fewer hours down to a minimum of 12.

Role Summary

Customers are at the heart of everything we do. As the face of Tesco out on the road, we deliver from Lands' End to John O'Groats. Our Customer Delivery Drivers meet customers in their homes each day, making this role about more than just driving – it’s about helping others and delivering great service with a smile.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the van and trays used are clean and kept tidy/organised.
  • Leave the backyard clean, tidy and clear of rubbish, and pick up litter as seen.
  • Ensure trays are washed as part of the tray wash process.
  • Load the van as required and check the van for roadworthiness.
  • Communicate with customers about any changes to their order, including short‑code items and substitutions, and offer refunds for items they are unhappy with.
  • Take care of products and deliveries as if they were your own.
  • Explain to the customer that they will not be charged extra for substitutions.
  • Deliver during the customer's preferred time slot.
  • Call the customer before arriving at their property if early.
  • Call the store/centre if running 30 minutes or more late.
  • Build relationships with colleagues to create team spirit and ensure the store is the best it can be for customers.
  • Be warm and welcoming in interactions with customers and colleagues, taking time to understand the customer and say thank you.
  • Act quickly to respond to changing needs of customers and embrace change within your store.
  • Be energetic and driven to deliver beyond expectations, integrating home and work to achieve a balanced life.
  • Share ideas with your Manager and other colleagues on how to improve the store for customers.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A valid UK/EU/EEA driving licence (Full or Automatic only) for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points.
  • Minimum age of 18 or higher if working before 6:15 am, after 9:45 pm or in certain areas such as the warehouse, bakery, or driving roles.
