Our Customer Delivery Driver rate of pay starts from £14.18 an hour; this increases to £15.45 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location. It is our policy to offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, but if you would prefer fewer hours (minimum 12) opportunities are also available. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times, and you will receive three weeks’ notice of when your shifts will be. We support flexibility, so if your availability is close to but not exactly the advertised times, we would still love to hear from you.
About the Role:
As the face of Tesco on the road, you will deliver from Lands' End to John O'Groats, meeting customers in their homes every day. This role is more than just driving: it is about helping others and delivering great service with a smile. You will work independently most of the day, but there is always a team of Managers and colleagues back at base ready to support you. So whether you want flexibility, job stability or an opportunity to change career direction, everyone is welcome at Tesco.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the van and trays used are clean and kept tidy/organised.
- Keep the back yard clean, tidy and clear of rubbish, picking up litter as seen.
- Wash trays as part of the tray wash process.
- Load the van as required and check its roadworthiness.
- Communicate with customers about any changes to their order, offering refunds for issues.
- Treat products and deliveries as if they were your own.
- Explain to customers that substitutions will not incur additional charges.
- Deliver within the customer’s time slot.
- Call the customer before arriving at their property if early.
- Call the store/centre if running 30 or more minutes late.
- Build relationships with colleagues to foster team spirit and support store performance.
- Be warm and welcoming in interactions with customers and colleagues, taking time to understand them and saying 'Thank you.'
- Respond quickly to changing customer needs and embrace change within the store.
- Be energetic and driven to deliver beyond expectations, balancing home and work.
- Share ideas with your Manager and other colleagues on how to improve the store for customers.
Qualifications:
- A valid UK/EU/EEA Driving licence (Full or Automatic only) for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points.
- Tesco will only recruit individuals who have passed the school leaver’s age. We accept candidates over the age of 18 if the role requires working before 6:15 am or after 9:45 pm or involves work in areas such as the warehouse, beers, wines and spirits, counters, bakery and driving roles.
- Some roles may close earlier than the advertised end date in high applicant volumes.
