Pay and Guaranteed Hours: Base rate of pay starts at £14.18 an hour, increasing to £15.45 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may apply depending on location. New colleagues receive a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week. If you prefer fewer hours (down to a minimum of 12), we can also discuss flexible arrangements.
Role Overview: Customers are at the heart of everything we do. As the face of Tesco on the road, you will deliver products straight from Lands’ End to John O’Groats, meeting and interacting with customers in their homes every day. This role is more than just driving – it’s about helping others and delivering great service with a smile. It is hands‑on, physical, and full of variety. No two shifts are ever the same, and customers seek help in many different ways. You will feel like your own boss most of the day, but always have a team of managers and colleagues at base ready to support you when needed. Responsibilities:
- Ensure the van and trays are clean and kept tidy/organised.
- Leave the back yard clean, tidy and clear of rubbish, and pick up litter as you see it.
- Ensure trays are washed as part of the tray wash process.
- Load the van as required and check the van for roadworthiness.
- Talk to the customer about any changes to their order, including short code items and substitutions, and offer a refund for anything they are unhappy with.
- Take care of products/deliveries as if they were your own.
- Explain to the customer that they will not be charged more for their substitutions.
- Deliver during the customer’s time slot.
- Call the customer before arriving at their property if you are early.
- Call the store/centre if running 30 or more minutes late.
- Build relationships with colleagues to create team spirit, working together to make sure our store is the best it can be for customers.
- Warm and welcoming in interactions with customers and colleagues, taking time to understand the customer and say 'Thank you.'
- Act quickly to respond to the changing needs of our customers and embrace change within your store.
- Be energetic and driven to deliver beyond expectations, integrating home and work to achieve a balance that is right for you.
- Share ideas with your manager and other colleagues on how you can improve your store for customers.
Qualifications: A valid UK/EU/EEA driving licence (full or automatic only) for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points.
