Our Customer Delivery Driver rate of pay starts from £14.18 an hour; this increases to £15.45 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location. We offer a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, with flexible options from 12 hours. We support flexibility and will schedule your contracted hours within your available windows.
Customers are at the heart of everything we do. As the face of Tesco out on the road, we deliver all the way from Lands' End to John O'Groats. Our Customer Delivery Drivers meet and talk to different customers in their homes every day. This role is about helping others and delivering great service with a smile. It’s hands-on, physical and full of variety. No two shifts are ever the same. You’ll feel like your own boss, but a team of Managers and colleagues at base provides support.
Delivering your part of our customer shopping trip by:
- Ensuring the van and trays are clean and tidy.
- Leaving the back yard clean and tidy, picking up litter.
- Ensuring trays are washed as part of the tray wash process.
- Loading the van, checking for roadworthiness.
- Communicating with customers about changes, substitutions, refunds.
- Taking care of products/deliveries as if they were your own.
- Explaining that substitutions are not charged.
- Delivering during the customer’s time slot.
- Calling the customer before arriving if early.
- Calling the store/centre if running 30+ minutes late.
Build relationships with colleagues to create team spirit, working together to meet customer needs. Be warm and welcoming; take time to understand the customer and say thank you. Act quickly to changing needs and embrace change within your store. Be energetic and driven, integrating home and work for a balanced life. Share ideas with your Manager and colleagues on how to improve the store.
A valid UK/EU/EEA Driving licence (Full or Automatic only) for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points. Please note: Tesco will only recruit individuals who have passed the school leaver’s age. We can only accept candidates over the age of 18 if the role requires working before 6:15 am or after 9:45 pm or involves work in the warehouse, beers, wines & spirits, counters, bakery and driving roles.
