Customers are at the heart of everything. As the face of Tesco out on the road, you deliver from Lands' End to John O'Groats, meeting and helping customers at home every day. The role is more than just driving: it's about helping others and delivering service with a smile.
Availability Window: Sunday 12:45 – 22:45, Tuesday 16:00 – 20:00, Saturday 08:45 – 18:45
Pay: The starting hourly rate is £14.18; for stores inside the M25 it increases to £15.45. Additional payments may apply depending on location.
Guaranteed Hours: New colleagues are offered a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours per week, with a flexible lower limit of 12 hours.
Responsibilities:
- Keep the van and trays clean and tidy.
- Leave the back yard clean, tidy, and clear of rubbish, picking up litter as seen.
- Wash trays as part of the tray wash process.
- Load the van as required and check its roadworthiness.
- Inform customers of any changes to their order, including short code items and substitutions, and offer refunds for items they are unhappy with.
- Treat products and deliveries as if they were your own.
- Explain to the customer that no additional charge will be applied for substitutions.
- Deliver during the customer's scheduled time slot.
- Call the customer before arriving at their property if early.
- Call the store/centre if running 30 minutes or more late.
- Build relationships with colleagues to create team spirit.
- Be warm and welcoming in interactions with customers and colleagues, taking time to understand the customer and say 'Thank you.'
- Act quickly to respond to changing customer needs and embrace change within the store.
- Be energetic and driven to deliver beyond expectations, integrating home and work for balance.
- Share ideas with managers and colleagues on how to improve the store for customers.
Qualifications:
- Valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence (Full or Automatic only) held for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Applicants working before 6:15 am or after 9:45 pm, or in roles such as warehouse, beer/wine/spirits, counters, bakery, or driving roles, must also be over 18.
- Applicants must have passed the school leaver's age for their country.
