About the Business Agility Team
The Business Agility team’s mission is to enable Technology & Online to win together by building adaptable capabilities, demonstrating agility behaviours, implementing effective ways of working, and driving continuous excellence. Consisting of 3 capabilities, Agility Coaching, Product Ops and UX Design & Research Ops, we sit within the Product function in Technology.
The Role – Lead Business Agility Coach
As a key member of the Business Agility team, the Lead Agility Coach leads a team of Senior Agility Coaches and Agility Coaches to design and implement strategic initiatives focused on creating adaptable capabilities and agility behaviours, implementing effective ways of working and driving continuous excellence. These initiatives target complex problem areas impacting various verticals or department, requiring the ability to think strategically, quickly assess the context, gather relevant data, and implement meaningful change while guiding stakeholders through the journey. Leveraging a wide range of Agile, Lean, and other relevant practices, the Lead Agility Coach collaborates with the Head of Business Agility and fellow Lead Agility Coaches and Lead Operations to co-create and deploy the blueprint for Tesco’s Agile ways of working.
Additionally, the Lead Agility Coach has line management responsibilities, including recruitment, mentoring, and supporting the career progression of team members.

You will be responsible for

Develop and execute the annual strategy for Agility Coaching capability in collaboration with Senior Agility Coaches and Agility Coaches.

Define, implement, and continuously refine the team operating model and structure to ensure it meets organisational needs.

Select, recruit, and build a high-performing team of Senior Agility Coaches and Agility Coaches.

Analyse and understand the organisational context (people, processes, products) to tailor impactful changes and solutions.

Identify and prioritise problem areas affecting multiple areas based on insights, business priorities, and the Business Agility mission and strategy.

Define and recommend optimal solutions that incorporate industry best practices while aligning with Tesco’s specific context.

Lead and deliver change initiatives that are appropriately tailored to the context and scale of impact across the department.

Design and deliver targeted learning experiences in various formats, tailored to the knowledge levels of diverse audiences.

Prepare and facilitate workshops and ad-hoc events for large groups to promote collaboration and engagement.

Coach leaders and senior leaders on adopting the Business Agility mindset and effective Agile practices.

Deep expertise in Agile frameworks and methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Lean), both theoretically and practically.

Proven ability to influence and lead change at all levels of the organisation, with strategic insight into when to intervene effectively.

Exceptional facilitation, coaching, and mentoring abilities, particularly with high-performing teams and leadership.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, complemented by a collaborative mindset.

Extensive experience in managing and facilitating large-scale organisational change initiatives, ensuring successful adoption of the blueprint

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, adept at engaging with diverse stakeholders.

Flexibility and adaptability to refine practices to meet varying contexts and organisational challenges.

Proficiency in leveraging metrics and data to inform strategic decisions and assess performance.

Strong capability to engage with senior stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for initiatives.

Proven capacity to mentor and develop coaches and future leaders within the organisation.
Experience required
You’ll need to have demonstrated experience of:

8+ years of experience in Agile coaching or related roles, with a strong track record of leading Agile Coaching practices and teams

Significant experience driving organisation-wide change initiatives, effectively managing resistance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Proven ability to utilise metrics and data to assess team performance and guide strategic decision-making.

Experience facilitating conflict resolution and promoting collaborative problem-solving environments.

Familiarity with Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Trello) and collaboration platforms (e.g., Confluence, Miro).

Relevant Agile certifications (Certified Scrum Master, ICAgile Agile Coaching, ICAgile Team facilitation, Kanban Foundation, Enterprise Coaching, Certified Agile Leadership)
