As a senior member of our Reward Leadership Team and a key expert within our global reward community, the Head of Executive Reward plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering reward strategy for our WL4+ population. The role supports both our business and people strategy, holding accountability for reward policy, long-term design, process management and governance for senior colleagues and for our global share plans, as well as leading group-wide reward projects that enhance and strengthen our approach. You will oversee the full reward cycle for WL4+ colleagues across the Tesco Group - including base pay, annual bonus and long-term incentives - ensuring our framework is simple, fair, competitive and sustainable. The remit spans multiple markets including the UK, Ireland, Central Europe and India, as well as Tesco Business Services, Dunnhumby, Tesco Bank, One Stop and Booker. The role also manages key third-party partnerships such as share plan providers and holds responsibility for the associated budget. As a trusted adviser to senior business leaders, you will guide decision‑making to ensure reward is set and delivered appropriately across a diverse global organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development of WL4+ executive reward policy and strategy to support the new long‑term business strategy, including the review of the executive remuneration policy, planning and implementation of shareholder consultations.
  • Management and governance of annual reward processes – salary reviews, bonus outturns, long‑term incentive grants and vestings.
  • Producing papers for Tesco Plc Rem.Co. and managing day‑to‑day relationship with external Rem.Co. advisers.
  • Reviewing and inputting to papers for the Tesco IMS Rem Co, and acting as a consultant to the IMS Rem Co chair and IMS Head of People.
  • Reward consultancy to People Directors and People partners on executive hiring & terminations, incentive plan design, share plans, talent retention, discretion on policy, global grading.
  • Overseeing the design, implementation and governance of our colleague share plans across the group (e.g. SAYE, BAYE).
  • Collaborate with other functions in setting and monitoring business KPIs associated with reward programmes.
  • Lead the team to develop high‑quality insight and data to support reward decision making.
  • Lead the development/support of other reward leaders to implement digital global reward tools and processes that deliver a great line‑manager and employee experience, achieve business objectives and recognise local legal/market/cultural differences.
  • Executive reward communications in partnership with the communications teams.

Reward Consultancy

  • Consultancy on mergers, acquisitions and disposals, TUPE transfers.
  • Support in the design of new incentives and other reward programmes to support the talent strategy and organisation design.
  • Reward consultancy to People Directors and Strategic Business partners on incentive plan design, talent retention, discretion on policy, job evaluation, pay transparency, communications strategy, support on other Remuneration Committees within the Tesco Group (Tesco Insurance and Money Services), as required.

People Team Partnership

  • Partner with the relevant parts of the people operating model to deliver the reward agenda – including strategic business partners, reward leaders in the reward practice of expertise, talent and capability practice of expertise, Global Business Services team, market people services teams, and the Projects, Planning and Change team.

Management of Third Parties

  • Market data providers, strategic reward consultants, communication specialists, legal advisers, share plan providers.

Budget and Forecasting

  • Forecasting and managing the team budget.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience in developing and drafting proposals for the Group Executive Committee and Remuneration Committee's approval.
  • Experience in developing reward strategies within complex organisations.
  • Experience in delivery of pay review processes, share plans, incentives within large organisations.
  • Experience in managing change within large international organisations.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of current and emerging Executive Compensation and legislative and tax changes across the markets in which we operate.
  • Experience in delivering a broad agenda, proven track record of coping with a broad remit with resilience.
  • Experience of working in reward in a regulated financial services organisation is desired but not essential.
