This role is crucial in safeguarding our customers’ data and ensuring the integrity of our systems. The Cyber Security Engineer will be responsible for implementing and improving security controls across the business, driving meaningful change in our cyber maturity program.
The Cyber Security Engineer will work collaboratively to deliver workstreams including, but not limited to, Perimeter, Network, Endpoint, Software, Data, and Foundational controls. As a Security Engineer, you will take responsibility for implementing controls on an enterprise scale. Taking guidance from our internal controls framework, you’ll be able to translate complex requirements into effective and scalable solutions, thinking not only about implementation but also the run and operate of the controls.
Understanding that one-size does not fit all, you must be creative in your approach, engaging with teams across the business to make their products more secure while balancing the need to move at speed and be flexible. We are an Agile business organised around cross-functional end-to-end squads, which are then grouped into Tribes and Centres of Excellence (CoE). This role will require collaboration across all areas of the business, so how you work is just as important as what you do.
You should be just as comfortable creating code and deploying technical solutions, as you are educating others and enabling the business, while always thinking customer first. This role can be based in any of our 3 head offices (Slough, Welwyn Garden City or Manchester). Occasional travel to the other offices may be required and is expensable. Tesco Mobile currently operates a hybrid working arrangement with a minimum of 2 days per week collaborating with colleagues at an office, Store, or Supplier location. This role has potential for career growth or learning opportunities for the right person.

- Implemented enterprise level technical controls, applying your deep and broad knowledge across multiple security domains.
- Proven record of integrating security features in the software development life cycle.
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, Power Shell, Terraform or similar.
- Ensuring that systems are safe and secure against threats by keeping in mind that the systems must be secure by design.
- Keen to cultivate a culture of collaboration, innovation and bringing industry standards to everything we do.
- Should be passionate about improving ways of working and best practices by understanding the customer.
- A passion for technology and can share that passion with others.
- Experience implementing platform specific controls in AWS and Azure.
- Understanding of application security tooling, in particular how to integrate alongside development workflows.
- Designed and deployed identity and access management solutions at scale.
- Integrating security by design and default in a complex environment.
- Have awareness and understanding of current cyber security threats, actors and their techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant frameworks and regulations, such as Mitre ATT&CK, NIST, TSA.
- Any relevant study or certifications, either formal or self-learning.
