Location: Reigate or Southampton Office, Blended Office Attendance: Our roles are hybrid once training is completed; however, you should be able to travel to the Reigate or Southampton office 2 days per week for this position.

Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for 2 x Technical Underwriting Analysts to join our Underwriting team in Reigate or Southampton (Home and Motor team). You’ll support the Underwriting team in delivering the personal lines strategy for Tesco Underwriting to achieve agreed growth and profitability objectives by providing underwriters with clear, data driven insights.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Producing clear, accurate, relevant analysis;
- Developing enhanced management information, analytical techniques and underwriting models;
- Ensuring underwriting rules are correctly applied through robust testing and validation frameworks.
The Role
- Gather, clean and validate underwriting data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy, completeness and readiness for analysis and reporting.
- Conduct detailed analysis of underwriting data to identify trends, correlations and emerging risks.
- Develop and refine predictive models and scoring frameworks in collaboration with pricing teams.
- Own data integrity checks and implement controls to ensure accuracy across underwriting processes.
- Recommend and drive improvements in data collection, data quality and governance standards.
- Design and deliver dashboards and reports and visualisations for underwriters and senior management.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Lead initiatives to automate data workflows and increase operational efficiency within underwriting.
- Document and standardise analytical processes to support scalability and reproducibility.
- Liaise between underwriting, pricing & data teams to align on data needs, priorities and strategic objectives.
- Present technical findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear, concise and engaging way.
- Perform portfolio-level risk assessments and monitor performance against underwriting guidelines and targets.
- Provide data insight to support decisions on risk appetite, product enhancements and strategic development.
- Ensure all data analysis, reporting and model development comply with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
We need you to have
- Strong ability to analyse large datasets, identify trends and extract actionable insights.
- Expertise in validating, cleaning and maintaining high standards of data integrity.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a logical data-driven approach to recommendations.
- Ability to present complex data and insights clearly and concisely.
- High level of accuracy in data handling, analysis and reporting.
- Proficiency in tools such as SAS (preferred).
- Advanced Excel (preferred), SQL, Python, and R.
- Experience with Power BI for dashboard and reporting development.
- Clear, confident and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
