TES is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Controller of Site Safety (COSS) to join our rail operations team on an initial 3 month fixed term contract. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the safe and efficient delivery of track maintenance, renewals, and infrastructure works across the rail network.
As a COSS, you will be responsible for leading site teams and ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with Network Rail standards, company procedures, and industry safety requirements. Working closely with clients, site personnel, and operational teams, you will coordinate resources, deliver safety briefings, manage workforce activities, and maintain a safe working environment while ensuring works are completed on time and to specification.

You will take ownership of staff welfare, team leadership, and site safety performance, ensuring effective communication, compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements, and the professional representation of TES at all times. The role also offers the opportunity to support the development of team members through coaching, mentoring, and ongoing competency assessment.

This position would suit an experienced rail professional with current PTS, COSS, and Lookout competencies, a strong understanding of Network Rail standards, and proven people management skills. You'll be joining a business that places safety, teamwork, and operational excellence at the heart of everything it does, empowering its teams to deliver high-quality rail services while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

About You

We are looking for a competent, safety-conscious, and experienced Controller of Site Safety (COSS) with a strong track record of working within the rail industry and delivering work safely in line with Network Rail standards and procedures.

The successful candidate will hold current PTS and COSS competencies, with a sound understanding of safe systems of work and the responsibilities associated with leading teams in a safety-critical environment. You will be confident taking ownership of site safety, delivering clear and effective briefings, and ensuring all activities are completed in compliance with relevant rules, standards, and company procedures.

You will possess strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate site teams, engage positively with clients and colleagues, and maintain high levels of safety awareness across all operations. A proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent organisational abilities, and the confidence to make informed decisions under pressure are essential.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance while promoting a positive safety culture on site. Experience supervising teams, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to the development of workforce competence would be highly advantageous.

Most importantly, you will be a reliable and professional team player who shares TES's commitment to safety, operational excellence, and delivering a high-quality service across the rail infrastructure sector.
