Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled Welder to join our team, specialising in welding switchgear doors and covers. The ideal candidate will have experience in welding metal components to meet precise specifications, with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency. This role involves welding, fabricating, and assembling switchgear parts, ensuring structural integrity and durability for electrical equipment enclosures.
Main Responsibilities:
- Welding: Perform MIG, TIG, or Stick welding (depending on requirements) on various metals, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, to assemble and fabricate switchgear doors, covers, and other metal components.
- Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols to determine material specifications, dimensions, and welding processes required for switchgear door and cover fabrication.
- Surface Preparation: Prepare and clean metal surfaces, including grinding, sanding, and removing any contaminants to ensure proper weld adhesion and finish.
- Quality Control: Inspect welds and finished parts to ensure they meet design specifications, structural integrity, and quality standards. Measure dimensions and conduct inspections using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Assembly: Assemble switchgear doors, covers, and related components using welding techniques and mechanical fastening methods as required.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as welding helmets, gloves, and protective clothing. Follow safety standards for working in high-temperature environments.
- Machine Operation: Operate various welding machines and equipment, ensuring they are set up correctly, maintained, and calibrated for optimal performance.
- Welding Maintenance: Maintain and clean welding tools, equipment, and work areas. Identify and report any issues with machines or materials that may impact production or quality.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot welding issues, including defects in materials, equipment, or processes, and make necessary adjustments to ensure product quality.
- Documentation: Complete required records, such as welding logs, quality inspection reports, and production forms, to track progress and ensure compliance with standards.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, supervisors, and engineers to meet production schedules, resolve issues, and ensure the smooth operation of the welding process.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process improvements by suggesting ways to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance the quality of the welding work.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience in welding, particularly on metal components such as switchgear doors and covers or other related enclosures.
- Proficient in MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Strong understanding of welding materials (steel, stainless steel, aluminum, etc.) and welding processes.
- Knowledge of welding safety practices and use of PPE.
- Attention to detail and focus on producing high-quality welds with minimal rework.
- Ability to operate and maintain welding machines and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot welding issues.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and work in a physically demanding environment.
