Job Overview

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and committed Teaching Assistant to join our outstanding specialist provision, as judged by Ofsted in our most recent inspection.

This is a pivotal role within a small, experienced, and dedicated team, working collaboratively to deliver an inclusive and responsive education to young people accessing inpatient care.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to meeting the needs of students with complex needs, contributing to consistently high-quality teaching and learning within a nurturing environment where all students are supported to achieve their full potential.

Brighton and Hove Clinic School is located within Brighton and Hove Clinic, an inpatient service for young people aged 11-18 with eating disorders.

We provide a personalised, high quality curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, ensuring continuity of education and a focus on academic progress, wellbeing, and personal development.

About This Role

This role involves working closely with students, senior leaders, families, and the hospital team to support learning, engagement and progress.

You Will

  • Actively support and promote attendance and punctuality by engaging directly with students both in school and on the ward
  • Encourage and motivate students to attend school regularly through positive communication and tailored strategies that recognise individual barriers to attendance
  • Provide individual and small group support, both in lessons and on the ward, using evidence informed strategies to help students overcome barriers to learning
  • Implement targeted interventions that promote attendance, academic progress, and emotional wellbeing
  • Promote and model high expectations for behaviour, engagement, and personal development
  • Contribute to effective safeguarding practices, routines, and relationship building, both within school and across the wider hospital setting
  • Communicate effectively with families, external professionals and colleagues to ensure a joined up and inclusive approach

The Ideal Candidate Will

  • Have experience working with young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and/or Special Educational Needs
  • Understand how to support students to re-engage with learning and maintain progress during periods of disrupted education
  • Be confident in applying inclusive teaching and learning approaches, and monitoring the impact of interventions
  • Work collaboratively to support a culture of safeguarding, high expectations, and student-centred practice
  • Be flexible, reflective and committed to the principles of equality, access and inclusive education
