The Role

We are looking to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic member of staff to teach up to A Level in the English Department. We are seeking a candidate who can teach a combination of A Level English Literature, A Level English Language and/or A Level English Language & Literature, with all members of the department also delivering Level 2 English classes. We are looking for a full-time member of staff or part-time (4 days) with dynamism and passion for their subject. With a friendly, supportive team, and exceptional College facilities, this is an exciting time to join our growing College.

Applications from ECTs and Teachers in Schools and Sixth Form College sectors are welcome. A full mentoring programme is arranged to introduce all new staff to sixth form college systems and procedures and to support and encourage professional development. We are looking for exceptional candidates to join the team and inspire our students. We expect high performance from all our staff and candidates should demonstrate their ability and suitability to both the role and the culture of the College.

The Department

The English Department is a dynamic and highly successful area of the College. Student recruitment numbers and the subjects offered have grown rapidly over the last few years and the department boasts consistently outstanding results. The department recognises the importance of offering a broad and engaging curriculum for its students and hosts a range of enrichment activities, such as theatre and museum trips, student conferences, visiting performance poets and writers, talks from local university lecturers, and internal and external creative writing competitions. Our students place a high value on the support they receive through lunchtime support workshops, Revision conferences and targeted one-to-one interventions.

  • A Level English Language – OCR
  • A Level Classical Civilisation – OCR
  • GCSE English Language – AQA
  • Functional Skills English – Edexcel

Learning Context

As part of the Woking Way programme, the College offers wider learning through short courses and lunchtime lectures. The Department has recently delivered talks on adaptation of literary works, democracy, and the value of the literary canon. These programmes provide opportunities for students to expand learning beyond the timetable, supporting personal development and UCAS applications. The Department works collaboratively and shares resources and pedagogical approaches within the department and with others.

All teaching staff are provided with a laptop and the department (six staff) has its own dedicated office/workroom.

Salary: ÂŁ33,467 to ÂŁ51,014 per annum, depending on experience (including fringe allowance). Figures subject to change with future pay increases
