Job Overview
Brook 6th Form & Academy is looking for an excellent part-time Science Technician to join our rapidly expanding science department. This is a fantastic opportunity for a committed science technician to work in an excellent school, where student behaviour and appetite for learning is exceptional.
Brook 6th Form & Academy is a small STEM school of KS4 and KS5 students, housed in an impressive new building in Barking and Dagenham, part of the Business and Science Park, which is soon to be joined by the exciting new Eastbrook film studio complex. The school has excellent transport links, with Dagenham East tube station a short walk away. The school is an excellent provision with a stable staff of subject specialists. Students study predominantly STEM subjects, with the recent introduction of Media. The school has excellent levels of attendance, with a focused and aspirational student body.
The school continues to enhance its provision to students, with the recent completion of a state of the art Media Suite, Apple Mac and CAD Suite, in-addition to a Mechatronics workshop, adding to the extensive engineering workshop facilities. The Science laboratories are relatively new and well equipped. The school is located opposite the soon to be open Eastbrook Studios in Dagenham East. Person Specification
To Support The Teaching Of Science
- To prepare materials, resources and equipment for daily use in the Science Departments
- To support teachers in the classroom e.g. during demonstrations and/or helping with practical skills
- To help maintain laboratories and prep rooms, including arranging repairs
- To ensure the learning environment is safe and first aid boxes are replenished
- To advise staff on the state of materials and stock levels, and to order equipment
- To keep accurate records of all new rules and regulations, including the updating of Hazard Cards, Chemical Safety Data Sheets, Student Safety Sheets and Recipe Cards
- To assist the Heads of Science in the management of departmental budgets
- To conduct subject specific monthly, termly and yearly safety checks
- To issue and track textbooks and other subscriptions
- To maintain a stock of stationery within each laboratory and prep room
- To prepare items for display boards and School Open Days, including taking photographs of Science activities
- In conjunction with the Teachers of Science, to trial and adapt new practical\'s and equipment to ensure they work before being used in the classroom
- To act as an Emergency First Aider for the Science Departments
- To attend and support Open and Taster Days
Commencement: November 2025. Part-time hours are negotiable.
