Terumo BCT Ltd, located in Larne, manufactures a range of sterile fluids for human and veterinary use. A vacancy currently exists for a Placement Student in our Microbiology Lab.
The successful candidate will carry out the testing of raw materials and finished goods, including sterility, bioburden and endotoxin analysis, as well as environmental monitoring of cleanrooms and controlled areas, preparation and testing of media and solutions, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
Duties will include:
- Working under the direct supervision of the department Team Leader
- Microbiological testing of Raw Materials, In-Process Materials and Finished Products, inclusive of sterility testing, bioburden testing and endotoxin testing, using current procedures
- Microbial sampling and testing of water for bioburden and endotoxin
- Ensuring the laboratory is maintained in good order
- Preparation and growth promotion of media
- Performing environmental monitoring of cleanrooms and controlled areas through the use of settle plates, contact plates and swab samples
- Performing microbiological monitoring of cleanroom personnel and cleanroom garments
- Maintaining accurate and neat records of all results generated
- Carrying out bacterial isolation, identification and culture maintenance tasks
- Investigation, reporting and review of OOS results as requested by Microbiology Team Leader
- Monitoring of stock levels of lab consumables and ensuring that all materials required for laboratory use are ordered as required
- Carrying out non-routine testing as requested by the Microbiology Team Leader
- Sterilising equipment by autoclaving and reviewing autoclave sterilisation parameters for compliance with the specifications
- Routine calibration/validation of equipment including balances, timers, and pH meter
- Decontaminating and cleaning laboratory glassware
Applicants must possess:
- Undertaking a degree or equivalent qualification in microbiology or a closely-related subject
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work to strict deadlines
In addition, the following would be a distinct advantage:
- Experience within a Pharmaceutical or Medical Device environment
- Knowledge of moist heat sterilisation and regulations
- A track record of carrying out and executing GMP documentation
- Experience gained within a production/manufacturing environment
