We are recruiting a Product Development Engineer (PDE) to join our Research & Innovation team, supporting the development and testing of next‑generation medical device technologies. This role backfills a recent vacancy within the team and will work closely with internal research specialists, academic partners, and wider R&D colleagues to drive early‑stage innovation.

You’ll contribute to materials research, lab‑based product testing and the development of new concepts, bringing scientific and engineering expertise that helps shape future Terumo Aortic solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory testing and experimental evaluation of materials, prototypes, and device components.
  • Support development of research proposals and contribute to writing, managing, and supervising research programmes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including universities and research groups.
  • Apply engineering and scientific methods to data generation, modelling, and problem‑solving.
  • Contribute to documentation, reporting, and project milestone delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality, safety, regulatory, and documentation standards.

About You

Essential

  • PhD in Bioengineering, Materials Science, Physics, Biology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience of materials testing in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to write research proposals and manage or supervise research projects.

Desirable

  • Experience with computational modelling (CFD / FEA).
  • Experience in medical device research, development or testing
