We are looking for a Manufacturing Shift Lead to provide day-to-day leadership within our Manufacturing team. You will be accountable for hitting production plans, maintaining a safe and compliant working environment, and driving quality, cost and continuous improvement across your area. This is a hands‑on leadership role, coaching and developing Production Operators to deliver safe, right‑first‑time output.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage shift resources (people, equipment and materials) to meet daily/weekly/monthly production targets.
- Provide daily updates and short interval management (SIM) reporting against agreed metrics.
- Support delivery of assigned projects on time and maintain standard work practices across all processes.
- Monitor cost performance versus plan; highlight variances and support actions to meet financial targets.
- Create and maintain a safe, compliant working environment; report accidents and hazards promptly and monitor trends.
- Ensure COSHH and risk assessments are reviewed and kept current in line with regulations.
- Maintain compliance to the Quality Management System (QMS), ensure accurate completion of records and drive audit readiness.
- Identify and progress process improvement opportunities, supporting implementation of new technologies and lean/continuous improvement activities.
- Coach, develop and performance manage Production Operators, ensuring adequate skills and resources to deliver to target output.
- Promote our core values, embrace change and encourage collaborative ways of working across the area.
Essential experience and qualifications
- Proven experience operating within a manufacturing environment, with responsibility for leading people and delivering to plan.
- Strong safety mindset with experience of creating safe systems of work, completing/maintaining risk assessments and raising/acting on hazards.
- Working knowledge of quality systems and maintaining accurate manufacturing records; able to operate within a regulated QMS and sustain audit readiness.
- Excellent communication skills, able to deliver clear daily communications across a shift.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- High level of documentation management (GDP and cGMP).
- IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) or willingness to achieve.
- OS2 Practitioner (Bronze equivalent) or willingness to achieve.
Desirable
- Experience in 5S, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools and techniques.
- Experience supporting the introduction of new technologies or process changes in a production environment.
