A regulated aerospace and defence manufacturer is seeking a hands-on Logistics Manager – Stores to lead material control, goods-in, stores and dispatch operations at its Sunbury-on-Thames site. This is a practical leadership role with responsibility for a team of nine Material Controllers and the compliant movement of materials throughout the business. The role will ensure materials and finished goods move accurately, efficiently and with full traceability, supporting production schedules, customer deliveries and inventory accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and manage a team of nine Material Controllers, allocating work and balancing daily priorities.
- Oversee Goods In, Stores and Dispatch, ensuring materials are processed accurately and on time.
- Coordinate domestic and international shipments with couriers, freight forwarders and third-party shipping agents.
- Maintain aerospace-standard material traceability and ensure incoming-goods quality procedures and NCR processes are followed.
- Monitor logistics KPIs covering material receipts, dispatch transactions, kit shortages, daily picks, production-order receipts and cycle counting.
- Manage shelf-life controls, MRB transactions, yearly stock checks and inventory-accuracy activities.
- Support inventory reduction and excess and obsolete stock-management programmes.
- Identify bottlenecks and lead practical continuous-improvement activity within the approved Business Management System.
- Ensure export, import, customs, Health & Safety and company-policy requirements are followed.
- Provide hands-on cross-functional support during peak periods or staff shortages.
Qualifications
- Proven logistics-management experience within aerospace, defence or another tightly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Strong people-management skills, with evidence of coaching, workload planning and employee development.
- Practical experience managing goods-in, stores, inventory control, material flow and dispatch.
- Experience using MRP or ERP systems within a manufacturing operation.
- Working knowledge of export control, customs procedures and domestic or international freight operations.
- Understanding of traceability, stock accuracy, cycle counting, non-conformance processes and controlled materials handling.
- A hands-on, improvement-focused approach and the confidence to work across Production, Purchasing, Quality and Customer Services.
