TPA Recruit is seeking an Engineering Document Controller for a specialist engineering manufacturer based in Hailsham. This position combines engineering document control, CAD drawing updates and configuration management within a complex electro-mechanical manufacturing environment.

The Engineering Document Controller will manage Engineering Change Notes (ECNs), concessions, drawing release and revision control. You will also support Bill of Materials (BOM) and MRP data, update CAD models and drawings following approved design changes, and help ensure that engineering information transfers accurately into manufacturing and procurement.

This role suits someone who understands how controlled engineering documentation, CAD data, BOM structures and manufacturing systems connect. It also offers exposure to design engineering activity and potential longer-term development within the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Run, maintain and improve the Engineering Change Note and concession processes alongside the Chief Engineer.
  • Capture design and production changes arising from system builds, then implement approved updates within CAD models and engineering drawings.
  • Maintain drawing release, revision and version control across current and historical projects.
  • Ensure design changes are formally documented, approved, archived and traceable through the ECN process.
  • Support the transfer of completed designs into manufacturing, including BOM preparation and loading data into the MRP system.
  • Maintain engineering procedures, work instructions and controlled documentation.
  • Distribute accurate project information to internal teams, suppliers, customers, consultants and contractors when required.
  • Support technical manuals, service instructions and other engineering documentation.
  • Assist with obsolescence activity, design reviews, issue reporting and resolution.
Experience Required
  • Experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment, ideally involving complex electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Practical knowledge of engineering change control, ECNs, concessions, document release and revision control.
  • Competence updating 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings.
  • Experience using a PDM or document management system; Autodesk Inventor and Vault are preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Bills of Materials and MRP systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and a systematic, methodical approach.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, quality and project teams.
  • Understanding of quality assurance processes, supplier compliance documentation and controlled records.
  • Experience handling design updates, obsolescence or engineering review actions.
Qualifications and Desirable Knowledge
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering; an engineering degree is preferred.
  • Autodesk Inventor and Vault experience, or equivalent CAD and PDM systems.
  • Competence with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and related business applications.
  • Experience with 8D problem solving, DFMEA or comparable risk analysis tools is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of HAZOP, AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN would be beneficial.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to undertake occasional UK and overseas travel.
Working Hours and Benefits
  • 37.5-hour working week.
  • Monday to Friday, 08:30-17:00, with a 60-minute break.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Permanent, site-based position in Hailsham.
