Terracon is embarking on an exciting new program to develop and grow our Exploration Team Members. We have created a partnership to offer a DOL-approved apprenticeship program as a Construction Craft Laborer. In this role, you will be on sites, working and observing under an approved and trained mentor or journeyworker. We will provide a documented training program to ensure you learn all aspects of the role and set you up to grow in your career as an experienced Exploration Team Member (ETM), potentially leading your own crew in time.
This is a traveling position. You will be assigned to a home location, where your initial training will begin, with locations to be determined. Once trained, you will be active in work at your home office and deployed as needed across the US, learning new skills, meeting other ETMs, and experiencing diverse projects.

As you progress towards becoming an ETM, you will perform subsurface exploration duties using techniques such as conventional drilling or in-situ testing, including auger drilling, mud rotary, air rotary, diamond core, cone penetration testing (CPT), pressure meter, and rock dilatometer testing. You may also install instrumentation like piezometers, monitor wells, and inclinometers. The role includes installation of steel test piles for solar project design. You will work as part of a team on various projects, performing tasks such as surveying, site reconnaissance, sample classification, equipment maintenance, and paperwork.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Load tooling and materials.
- Assist in drilling operations.
- Assist in solar pile driving or testing operations.
- Collect soil and rock samples and log data.
- Perform routine repairs and maintenance.
- Perform basic surveying and site reconnaissance.
- Drive a medium-duty truck and trailer.
- Learn to inspect and maintain equipment.
- Follow safety rules, participate in pre-task planning, and report safety issues.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- No prior experience required.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
- Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card within 30 days of employment.
This role requires outdoor work in varying weather, lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, and performing physical activities such as standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and climbing. Work involves proximity to moving machinery in noisy environments and out-of-town travel. DOT drug testing and medical monitoring are mandatory.
The salary range is $21.00 to $29.25 per hour, with final compensation based on qualifications and experience, and may vary by location.
