Overview
In this role you lead the machine shop production floor, ensuring safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost targets. You’ll drive lean practices, continuous improvement, and engaged teams to optimise operations. You work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, maintenance, and supply chain to resolve issues and sustain efficient flow. Responsibilities
- Lead daily production operations and manage labour, work instructions, attendance, training and employee relations
- Coordinate with Production Control and Purchasing on outsourced work and external providers for cutting and folding
- Control shop floor production levels to meet targets and ensure timely material flow
- Drive lean manufacturing (5S, Kaizen, waste elimination) and lead improvement projects to boost efficiency and reduce costs
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, maintenance, and supply chain to resolve production issues
- Foster accountability, problem-solving and employee involvement; organize daily/weekly production meetings
- Promote health and safety compliance with regulations
- Ensure lean practices are embedded in production lines and flexibly cover day and night shifts when needed
- Perform other duties as required and adhere to site rules and policies
Key requirements
- GCSE level or equivalent
- Significant production experience in a high-pressure manufacturing environment
- Experience in supervisory or people management roles
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques (advantage)
- Awareness of visual management
- Computer literate with experience of Oracle/ERP systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to meet deadlines, adapt to changing priorities, and work both in teams and independently
