We currently have an opportunity for a Design Engineer who will report to the Lead Engineer and will be based at our Campsie or Farlough manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the relevant Lead Engineer, the Design Engineer will be responsible for both the continual product development of the existing machines in our range and the design & development of our next generation of mobile environmental equipment.
  • Provide engineered solutions for the development of new products and the continual improvement of the existing Ecotec Range.
  • Work with a team to investigate and address customer complaints, assist in the resolution of problems at the root cause quickly and effectively, implementing engineering changes where required.
  • Ensure current and new products meet standards and performance levels specified for safety, function and reliability.
  • Provide the Ecotec dealer network with the required support and service that they require, answering technical queries from dealers and customers.
  • Produce a full design package for manufacturing including detailed drawings, exploded drawings, engineering BOMs etc.
  • Reduce manufacturing cost through improved design and consultation with the production department, purchasing and suppliers.
  • Follow group standards of in the areas of quality, FMEA, design-for-manufacture, prototype development and field testing.
  • Follow group engineering standards and associated IT systems, to ensure effective global management of released engineering data.
  • Stay knowledgeable of machine component advancements and competitor design trends; apply latest technology to new and existing designs where appropriate to stay current and innovative.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Competent user of 3D solid modelling CAD, ideally Creo, and familiarity with product data management (PDM) systems.
  • Design experience in the mobile machinery industry or similar heavy equipment design.
  • Good technical expertise in both mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Good English communication skill, both written and spoken.
  • Degree educated or equivalent in Engineering.
  • An understanding of the various applications that the equipment can operate in along with an appreciation for the expected performance of the machines.

  • Creativity and innovative thinking.
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates should have a can do attitude and be able to work as part of a team to meet the deadlines required.
  • Able to assess workload and commit to realistic timelines.
  • Can identify risks both technical and commercial with proposed product change or new product.
