About the Role:
Working with the relevant departments and reporting to the Engineering Director, the Principal Design Engineer will provide expert product design leadership and develop/detail new designs and where necessary create detailed prototype testing plans. They will provide leadership on design projects and ensure a specified solution is implemented within the agreed schedule and costs.
Responsibilities:
- Leading the development and documentation of design processes for products designed within the company.
- Responsible for the accuracy and successful delivery of product design projects, for the product definition and design phases, concessions and production permits.
- Design, prototype, assess and review mechanical components and assemblies.
- Provide support in product acceptance, testing and validation activities.
- Prepare and participate in requirements and design review meetings.
- Undertake analysis of mechanical components, assemblies and systems, as well as manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Oversee and participate in prototyping activities.
- Support of the design, manufacturing and shop floor activity when required.
- Provide technical support for the company's product range across manufacturing, development and procurement.
- Provide engineering support for material selection during the design and development phase, including the design and development of tests to verify performance.
- Provide technical assistance to both external and internal customers, joining company representatives at customer sites as and when required.
- Support the cross-functional team in problem solving and troubleshooting.
- Maintain a high level of technical knowledge coupled with ongoing professional development, for the joint benefit for the job holder and the business.
- Work with the engineering team to oversee warranty and product return reviews.
- Mentor, coach and develop engineering talent.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required at the discretion of your manager.
