The Touring Exhibitions team delivers large turnkey exhibitions to venues worldwide, engaging over 2 million visitors outside London each year. The Operational team oversees delivery, and the Technical Operations Manager reports to the Senior Operations Manager and will manage day‑to‑day operations, ensuring health and safety compliance, contractor management, budgeting, and problem‑solving across international sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the delivery of large turnkey exhibitions at hosting venues.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements, produce and review risk assessments and method statements.
- Procure and manage external contractors and suppliers.
- Maintain agreed budgets, obtain cost estimates, and deliver value for money.
- Coordinate with engineering, object handling, and operational teams across multiple disciplines.
- Set up and manage workshops and working site environments.
- Represent the Museum to external clients, suppliers, and contractors.
- Resolve complex technical problems using creative and analytical skills.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Experience working in a medium‑large organisation or institution.
- Experience with museum temporary/touring exhibitions desirable but not essential.
- Solid knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and SOPs.
- Experience working in a workshop and/or site environment.
- Ability to work in varied conditions and tasks (e.g., at height, in a building site).
- Proven procurement and contractor management skills.
- Strong record‑keeping and organisational abilities.
- Good written communication skills using MS Office Suite.
- Effective verbal communication, personal presentation, and ability to represent the Museum externally.
- Valid UK Driving Licence (required).
- SMSTS (Site Managers Safety Training Scheme) certificate or willingness to obtain.
- MEWP licence and First Aid At Work certificate desirable.
Travel: International travel will be required.
