Description

Who We Are

At Tenzing, we're on a mission to become the best pan European software and tech investor with a fresh approach and huge ambition. Our mission is to seek out the best European tech and tech-enabled firms and help build them into international powerhouses.

Since our founding in 2015 (so we’re now a decade old) we’ve raised three funds:

  • Fund I at £200 million
  • Fund II at £400 million (raised entirely virtually in 2020)
  • Fund III, which closed in 2024 at £900 million+, oversubscribed and at hard cap — more than double Fund II

We’ve grown to a team of 55 people, operating as one team, however spread across three offices, London, Munich and Stockholm. We all share the same mindset — ambitious, innovative, and pace.

At this exciting stage in our growth journey, we are now looking to expand our Investment Team to support us in our growth plans as we continue to scale. We want to work with like-minded people who are passionate about that journey and can build a super-strength in helping to deliver this vision.

Whilst we are looking for candidates who have core technical competencies to add leverage to the team, we are really interested in people who could, with the correct training and support, be future leaders. What’s really important to us is how you work with, develop and influence people around you.

To support your development, you’ll work closely with the eight existing Investment Leads, one of which will be your career coach.

The Job in Two Bullets

  • Execute end to end: from sourcing and evaluating early-stage opportunities to closing deals and driving value.
  • Build trust with Investment Leads, gradually owning full workstreams so that you can step into that role yourself.

The Day Job on Arrival

This role is about giving you all the skill and experience to be great at the full execution cycle of investments. From originating and evaluating early-stage opportunities to executing and buying world-class businesses. We want our Investment Leads to have high conviction in you running each and every work stream on a transaction, whilst helping to develop your commercial acumen.

Investment analysis and execution

  • Give analytical and research support to the Investment Leads, including financial modelling, market analysis, and reviewing information memoranda
  • Help and lead with due diligence, manage external providers, and draft and summarise reports
  • Support the Investment Leads in the structuring and negotiation of potential investments
  • Assist with the financing of investments and presentation and review of materials with lenders and the Investment Committee (IC)

Investment origination

  • Support the Investment Leads in the research and identification of potential investments, industry reports, presentations, and pitches
  • Maintain and cultivate networks of M&A advisors across the UK and Northern Europe
  • Build trusted relationships with Founders and entrepreneurs

Portfolio company management

  • Working with the portfolio company on their financial critical analysis

Ad hoc tasks including

  • Valuations for reports to investors
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Requirements

Who May Be Great at This Job...

From our experience so far, the people who are most successful as an Investment Support show these traits:

  • Dynamic, hard-working, self-starter and hungry
  • Low ego, high emotional intelligence, able to build relationships quickly
  • Enjoys working at pace and in a high-performance environment
  • Intellectually curious - questions why, looks at different angles, always keen to learn
  • High energy and enthusiastic about the journey ahead
  • Someone who can make things happen – action-oriented, but with the soft skills to bring an existing team along with them
  • Team player, searches for the win-win rather than the win-lose
  • An entrepreneurial interest, a curiosity for business models, and the ability to assess the commercial drivers of a business on limited information

We're probably not looking for someone who...

  • Prefers working solo and doesn’t enjoy honing their "soft skills." Emotional intelligence and relationship skills are key for us
  • Doesn’t believe in winning and losing as a team
  • Isn't committed to hard work and continuous learning
  • Is obsessed with hierarchy and status
  • Is overly shy
  • Isn’t passionate about backing and building successful independent businesses and would prefer to be a venture capitalist. We focus on investing in proven businesses and exploiting the upside

Qualifications & Experience

We’re open-minded about career changes or resets, as we’ve seen many successful candidates develop greater conviction in their long-term careers as a result. Failing is a big part of succeeding, in our opinion.

Our Investment Team members come from lots of different backgrounds, and we are trying to build a team of people who are all bright, hungry and thrive in a high-performance team.

The successful candidates will likely have experience and an understanding of:

  • The private equity process of buying businesses, having had experience in private equity as an Analyst, and/or investment banking, M&A, leveraged finance, corporate finance or management consulting
  • Strong base of technical financial modelling skills, especially in operational and financial models and understanding of investment structuring and transaction execution - M&A processes, building LBOs and three statement models
  • European languages - not essential but if you’re fluent or business level in a European language, we would love to hear from you. Some form of a personal or professional network in Northern Europe would be the extra that would make you stand out from the crowd

The process

Our recruitment process tends to take around 6 weeks. We want people to join our Investment Team and feel inspired to work with us for many years, so this is a long-term commitment for both you and us.

Stage 1: Get to Know Us

You’ll start with a conversation with the Tenzing Talent Team. This is a two-way chat to understand your story, what drives you, and how your ambitions align with ours. You’ll also learn more about who we are, what we’re building, and where the firm is heading next.

Stage 2: Demonstrate Your Fundamentals

Next comes a short technical exercise, covering key corporate finance and accounting principles, alongside an aptitude and abilities assessment. This helps us understand how you think, analyse, and approach commercial problems.

Stage 3: Meet an Investment Lead

You’ll then meet one of our Investment Leads for a focused discussion on your experience and commercial instincts.

Stage 4: The Half-Day Experience

For candidates progressing further, we’ll invite you to a half-day session at our offices, usually on a weekend (we know how hard it can be to scope time out of your workday!). You’ll work through a technical and commercial case study and spend time with several members of the Investment Team. It’s immersive, collaborative, and gives you a real feel for our working style.

Stage 5: Meet a Managing Partner

The final step is a meeting with one of our Managing Partners. This is about alignment - of ambition, values, and mindset. We’re looking for people who want to help build something exceptional, and who are excited by the journey ahead.

Stage 6: Get to Know Your Future Peers

Throughout the process, you’ll also have opportunities to meet additional Investment team members and your potential peer group. We encourage you to use this time to reference us as much as we assess you. We want you to leave the process certain that this is the right next step for you.

Training and Development

Tenzing is dedicated to making learning and development part of our philosophy. Historically the private equity market has been an apprenticeship model; you have to wait for the opportunities to arise to gain exposure and experience on relevant deals. Tenzing is striving to turn this model around.

We believe in investing in our employees, promoting engagement through training, and committing to long-term development. We emphasise heavily in The Altitude Academy©, Tenzing’s one-of-a-kind continuous development programme because we recognise our people make a huge commitment to us. We’re big believers that a well-rounded and diverse set of skills underpins our high performance and innovation culture.

Our aim

  • Increase our awareness of our influence on others.
  • Increase the depth of our influencing skills.
  • Increase our influencing competence on people and situations.
  • Create a psychologically safe environment where everyone feels included and able to learn, collaborate, and challenge.

Past topics have included:

  • Why and how do we learn and develop in a high-performance environment?
  • Insights for making better decisions.
  • How does our brain help and hinder learning?

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

In 2022, Tenzing made a serious commitment at the Managing Partner level to become a significantly more diverse and inclusive employer than is the accepted norm in our industry. We believe that curiosity is nurtured in a values-led and inclusive environment where everyone feels like they belong. Our goal is for 50% of our employee base to be represented by women and minority groups by 2027, and specifically, 50% of our Investment Team. Creating a fair, inclusive, high-performance team is critical to building an engaged workforce and our success.
