Principal Platform Engineer

The Role

We are partnering with a well-established telecommunications organisation undergoing a major cloud migration and platform modernisation initiative. They are looking for a Principal Platform Engineer to take ownership of their cloud platform strategy, developer experience, and internal tooling.

This role offers a high level of autonomy and influence, working across engineering teams to build scalable, secure, and developer-friendly platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of a cloud-native, serverless-first platform on AWS
• Own and evolve the Internal Developer Platform, setting standards and technical direction
• Improve developer experience, enabling rapid setup and deployment of new microservices
• Build and maintain Terraform infrastructure, including internal reusable modules
• Standardise and optimise CI/CD pipelines using GitLab and shared deployment templates
• Implement and integrate security and code quality tooling, including SAST and dependency scanning
• Deploy and manage a service catalogue / developer portal to improve service ownership and visibility
• Drive adoption of centralised monitoring and observability, with automated dashboards and alerts
• Partner closely with development teams to provide technical leadership, remove blockers, and accelerate delivery
• Administer and govern the AWS environment, including SSO, IAM, SCPs, and multi-account strategy
• Contribute to AWS cost optimisation and financial governance
• Support authentication and identity initiatives, including AWS Cognito integrations for mobile applications and customer migration projects

What We’re Looking For

• Senior-level experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Cloud Engineering
• Strong hands-on AWS and Terraform expertise
• Proven experience improving developer experience at scale
• Background in designing and operating cloud-native architectures
• Ability to lead through influence and work cross-functionally
• Strong automation and security-first mindset
