We are seeking an experienced Technical Architect to play a key role in designing and delivering modern, citizen-centric digital services at scale.

This is an opportunity to join a high-performing team that is helping government organisations modernise legacy systems, embrace cloud-native technologies, leverage AI, and deliver exceptional digital experiences for citizens.

You'll combine strategic thinking with hands-on technical leadership, guiding multidisciplinary teams through architecture, design, and implementation whilst ensuring solutions align with government standards, security frameworks, and emerging technology trends.

What You'll Be Working On

As a Technical Architect, you'll be involved in a wide variety of transformational initiatives, including:

  • Designing and delivering large-scale citizen-facing digital services that meet Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and accessibility requirements.
  • Building personalised and proactive public services that anticipate user needs and improve service outcomes.
  • Driving the adoption of AI-powered solutions, including intelligent automation, virtual assistants, predictive support, and next-best-action capabilities.
  • Leading the modernisation of CRM and customer engagement platforms, including technologies such as Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, and other enterprise platforms.
  • Developing omnichannel digital experiences across web, mobile, contact centre, and other citizen interaction channels.
  • Enabling data-driven delivery through advanced analytics, forecasting, automation, and AI-enabled tooling.
  • Supporting cloud migration and modern application development programmes across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Architecture & Leadership

  • Lead the design and delivery of complex enterprise-scale solutions.
  • Translate high-level solution architectures into detailed technical designs and implementation roadmaps.
  • Define technical standards, architecture principles, and best practices across programmes.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical direction to development and architecture teams.
  • Assure technical quality and alignment with wider organisational and government strategies.

Solution Design & Delivery

  • Produce detailed technical artefacts including:
  • Component and integration designs
  • API specifications
  • Security architectures
  • Deployment and operating models
  • Design scalable, resilient, cloud-native platforms and services.
  • Support iterative delivery through transitional and target-state architectures.
  • Architect solutions across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Champion cloud-native, open-source, and DevOps approaches.
  • Review code, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment strategies.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to resolve complex technical challenges.

Security & Governance

  • Embed security-by-design principles into all solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with government service standards and security frameworks.
  • Design robust approaches to identity management, encryption, access control, and secure cloud operations.

AI & Emerging Technology

  • Shape AI adoption strategies and identify practical use cases across public services.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions that deliver measurable value.
  • Help organisations leverage GenAI tools and automation to improve both citizen outcomes and delivery efficiency.

What We're Looking For:

  • Significant experience in a Technical Architect, Lead Engineer, Solution Architect, or similar hands-on architecture role.
  • Proven success delivering enterprise-scale systems within public sector, government, or highly regulated environments.
  • Strong experience designing solutions on Salesforce, AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud platforms.
  • Expert-level development experience with technologies such as:
  • Node.js, Java, Python
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture patterns including:
  • Microservices
  • Event-driven architectures
  • Serverless computing
  • Experience with modern DevOps practices and tooling, including:

  • Experience working with open-source technologies and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of GenAI engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of GDS standards, accessibility requirements, and government technology best practices.
  • Experience implementing security-by-design principles within cloud environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and mentoring skills.
  • Experience with data streaming and event platforms.
  • API Gateway and service mesh technologies.
  • Front-end framework integration experience.
