3rd Line Infrastructure & Automation Engineer

3rd Line Infrastructure & Automation Engineer to join their growing IT Infrastructure team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced
3rd Line Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer or strong 2nd Line Engineer looking to take on more responsibility across infrastructure, automation and technical projects.
The role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys looking beyond the immediate technical issue and asking
- \"how can we improve or automate this?\"
- You’ll be working across a mature Microsoft environment, supporting both
Azure and on-premises infrastructure , while also identifying repetitive tasks and developing automation to improve the efficiency of the wider IT function.
The position is approximately
50% 3rd line infrastructure and 50% automation , giving you the opportunity to develop your technical engineering skills while taking ownership of automation projects and wider infrastructure improvements.
The Role
As a 3rd Line Infrastructure & Automation Engineer, you’ll sit within a dedicated Infrastructure team and provide senior‑level technical support across the organisation.
You’ll be responsible for
- Providing
3rd line technical support across infrastructure and Microsoft technologies.
- Troubleshooting and resolving complex escalated technical issues.
- Supporting and maintaining
Azure cloud infrastructure .
- Supporting on‑premises infrastructure and core Windows environments.
- Managing and troubleshooting
Microsoft 365 / Office 365 technologies.
- Working with identity, access and user management across Microsoft environments.
- Using
Power Shell to automate administrative and infrastructure tasks.
- Identifying repetitive support processes and looking at opportunities to automate them.
- Developing automation using
Power Automate and Microsoft technologies.
- Supporting the design, implementation and continual improvement of infrastructure solutions.
- Contributing to technical projects and infrastructure change initiatives.
- Working with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
- Producing technical documentation and maintaining appropriate records.
- Taking ownership of technical issues and projects through to resolution.
- Supporting the wider Infrastructure team and contributing to continual service improvement.
- Automation & Improvement
A key part of this position is the automation element .
The organisation has a mature IT environment and wants someone who can look at the day‑to‑day workload and identify opportunities to make things more efficient.

What We're Looking For
We’re looking for someone with a strong infrastructure background who is comfortable operating at 3rd line level and has a genuine interest in automation.
You’ll ideally have
- Strong experience working in
2nd or 3rd line infrastructure support .
- Good experience across
Microsoft Azure .
- Strong
Power Shell scripting experience.
- Experience supporting
Microsoft 365 / Office 365 .
- Good knowledge of Windows Server and Microsoft infrastructure.
- Experience with Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience working across both cloud and on‑premises environments.
- A proactive approach to identifying technical improvements.
- Experience working on technical projects rather than purely managing tickets.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to take ownership and work independently.

You don’t need to have experience across everything listed above. We’re primarily looking for someone with a strong
Microsoft infrastructure background, Power Shell capability and an appetite for automation .
The Team
You’ll join an established Infrastructure function made up of a dedicated team of infrastructure specialists, working alongside a wider technical design function.
The organisation also has established
1st and 2nd line support teams , meaning you’ll be working within a structured and mature IT environment rather than being expected to handle everything yourself.
You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of escalated technical issues while also working on longer‑term infrastructure and automation projects.
