The Role
We’re looking for a highly motivated, talented Product Designer to join our NPD team. You will be a key driver in bringing the next generation of TentBox products to life. Reporting directly to the Lead Designer - New Product Development, you will provide the technical and creative support necessary to move products from the roadmap into reality.
We are looking for a well-rounded designer who leans into technical detail, thrives on solving mechanical challenges, perfecting component-level details and possesses the design eye to ensure every part retains the look and feels of a TentBox product. You will support the Lead Designer on major product launches while taking lead for accessories and product upgrades.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Resolution: Support the Lead Designer by deep diving into component level design, resolving complex mechanisms, and supporting CAD assemblies to ensure high-quality output.
- Engineering Documentation: Own the technical back end of the design process, including the creation of precise 2D drawing packs, BOM management, and tolerance stacks.
- Project Ownership: Take independent lead on assigned projects, specifically focusing on the development of accessories and product upgrades from concept through to manufacture.
- Visual Validation: Create high-quality renders to facilitate internal sign-off, ensuring stakeholders can clearly visualise form, material, and finish before moving to production.
- Prototyping & Testing: Critically review factory samples and prototypes, identifying technical or visual issues and iterating designs to ensure they meet our rigorous standards.
- Manufacturing Liaison: Support the transition of designs to our global manufacturing partners, ensuring Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles are applied.
- Aesthetic Refinement: Apply a strong design eye to ensure that even the most functional components are visually aligned with the premium TentBox brand identity.
- Prototype Development & Testing: Ability to design, build, and test mechanical prototypes in controlled environments.
Ideal Candidate
- Technical Foundation: A degree in Product Design, Design Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related technical field.
- Proven Track Record: 3+ years of experience in developing consumer goods, with a portfolio that demonstrates both mechanical logic and aesthetic sensibility.
- Software Fluency: High proficiency in 2D and 3D tools (SolidWorks/Rhino, Keyshot, and Adobe Creative Suite) to visualise and communicate design intent.
- Manufacturing Knowledge: A solid understanding of various production processes and materials, with the ability to design components that are both functional and commercially viable.
- Detail-Oriented Mindset: You enjoy the deep dive, getting into the weeds of a technical problem to find an elegant, robust solution.
- Communication: The ability to clearly communicate technical challenges and progress to the Lead Designer and wider NPD team.
- Experience: 3+ years of industry experience (excluding placement) with a portfolio to demonstrate - not graduates please.
