Overview

Ashby has grown from ~250 to 320 employees and the scope of our IT operations has expanded. This role is designed to accelerate the team’s growth and continue delivering world‑class support and technology to our employees.

Responsibilities

  • Own and resolve customer issues from ingestion through to resolution, whether that’s a one‑time fix or a deeply technical project impacting the whole organization.
  • Offer, advocate, and implement best practices for an IT function that securely creates the most productive workforce in the world.
  • Own projects across device management (e.g., Kandji, Crowdstrike), identity management (e.g., Okta, Google Workspace), hardware logistics (e.g., laptop shipping, accessories lifecycle), and user lifecycle (onboarding, offboarding, and user changes) to automate manual processes and reduce touchpoints to those where human interaction matters.
  • Contribute to building a cohesive, performant, and scalable event‑driven backend, making data shifting across the business effortless and easy to adopt everywhere.

Requirements

  • Strong belief that end‑user support is as important as building world‑class automations.
  • Deep experience—able to demonstrate detailed, specific knowledge and broader architectural understanding—across relevant IT systems (device management, identity management).
  • Experience automating the interplay between IT systems and other internal systems, handling APIs, servers, and glue‑code for disparate systems to communicate.
  • Comfort and interest in building a stateless internal backend composed of TypeScript services, pub/sub queues, and APIs for downstream and upstream applications.
  • Desire to work in and help build a small team of experts with an open, engaged, and radically efficient profile.
  • Aspiration to challenge norms and build for scale and flexibility beyond the expected.
  • Humility to accept others’ thoughts and emotions as valuable before your own and to be vulnerable in front of others.
  • Wisdom to know when it’s best to apply the above principles.

Non‑Requirements

  • Experience in exactly our tech stack is not required—systems knowledge is more important.
  • A specific timezone is not required. We are remote‑friendly and can hire across Europe, the UK, the U.S., and other countries for the right candidate.
  • Salaries outside the U.S. will be location‑dependent. We will sponsor visas where possible for the right candidate.

Sample of What You Would Be Working On

  • Help end users with everyday issues, trace root causes, and roll out structural, lasting fixes.
  • Lead the initiative to build an internal backend that moves data and performs business logic in a scalable, auditable, testable, and production‑grade manner.
  • Use Terraform and Git to make critical systems (device management, IAM) transparent, self‑documenting, audit‑ready, and auto‑deployed.
  • Define and implement authentication rules for users that tie directly and elegantly to governing policies while providing industry‑leading security.
  • Build out role‑based access control and birthright access, and own the people‑data challenges stemming from this.

What You Will Not Be Working On

  • Break/fix cycles when root causes can be tackled instead. You will be empowered and expected to fix problems, not delay symptoms.
  • Non‑stop tickets. Everyone on the team is expected to contribute equally to interrupt‑driven and systemic issues—no first or second line distinction.
  • Traditional corporate IT. We use a standard “startup stack”—nearly everything is cloud‑based, devices are majority macOS with a small Linux subset—and we have the agency and ability to move fast with outsized impact.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • 10‑year exercise window for stock options. You don’t have to purchase options if you leave; do it when you feel financially comfortable.
  • Twelve weeks of fully paid family leave in the U.S. (expanding to other countries as appropriate).
  • Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget to get what you need to be happy and productive.
  • $100/month education budget, with more expensive items (e.g., conferences) covered with manager approval.
  • Top‑notch health insurance for you and your dependents with all premiums covered by us (if you’re in the U.S.).

Compensation Range: $170K - $240K
