About Nothing

Nothing exists to make tech feel exciting again. We're building a different kind of technology company, one that puts design, emotion, and human creativity at the heart of everything we do. Founded in London in 2020 and backed by GV, EQT Ventures, and C Ventures, we’re now sold in 40+ markets with millions of users worldwide.

About the Team

The AI & Services team is the studio within the machine — tasked with exploring the bleeding edge of human‑computer interaction and prototyping the future of Nothing OS before scaling it to millions of users globally. We don't just improve existing things; we invent what's missing. This is a high‑velocity environment where speed, craft, and creative ambition are non‑negotiable.

About the Role

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and grow the AI & Services engineering team. You've spent meaningful time as a software engineer — you know what good looks like at the code level — but today your craft is people, teams, and delivery. You'll be the person who clears the path for exceptional engineers to do their best work, while keeping us shipping fast and pointed in the right direction. This isn't a role for someone who wants to manage from a distance. You'll be close to the work, deeply engaged with the team, and a key voice in how we build our AI products and capabilities.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of full‑stack and AI engineers, creating an environment where talented people can do the best work of their careers.
  • Own the team's delivery — setting a high bar for execution, removing blockers, and keeping a rapid shipping cadence without sacrificing quality.
  • Partner closely with Product and Design to translate ambitious ideas into clear, executable roadmaps, balancing exploratory prototyping with production‑grade engineering.
  • Drive technical direction alongside your senior engineers — not by writing the code, but by shaping the decisions around architecture, tooling, and build‑vs‑buy.
  • Build and maintain engineering excellence: code quality standards, review practices, incident response, and the systems that let us scale what we prototype.
  • Represent the team across the organisation — communicating progress, surfacing trade‑offs, and advocating for what the team needs to succeed.

What We're Looking For

  • A strong engineering foundation. You've shipped production software — ideally full‑stack, with experience in the kinds of technologies our team uses (React, Node.js/Python, cloud infrastructure). You can hold a technical conversation at depth and earn the respect of the engineers you lead.
  • Proven people leadership. You have experience managing engineers directly, supporting their growth, handling performance, and building team culture. You know that your output is your team's output.
  • Delivery ownership. You have a bias toward shipping. You know how to balance speed and rigour, and you hold the team to a high standard on both without becoming a bottleneck.
  • AI & product fluency. You understand the landscape — LLMs, agents, real‑time systems — well enough to make smart prioritisation calls and guide technical direction, even if you're not the one implementing it day‑to‑day.
  • Design sensibility. You appreciate that at Nothing, how something feels is as important as how it works. You champion craft throughout the engineering process.
  • Comfort with ambiguity. Our best ideas often start as questions without answers. You help the team stay focused and productive even when the path isn't fully defined.
  • Clear, direct communicator. You can synthesize complexity for different audiences — from engineers in a retro to leadership in a roadmap review.

How We Work

  • Location: London (Kings Cross & Farringdon offices)
  • Working Pattern: Full-time, in‑office (5 days a week). We believe the best work happens when we're in the same room, and we design flexibility around personal needs where possible.
  • Commute: We ask that you live within a 60‑minute commute of your office location.
