Tennial Personnel are actively seeking an experienced and hands-on Production Team Leader to join a growing, family-run manufacturing business based in Risby, near Bury St Edmunds. This is a temporary to permanent opportunity after a successful 12 week working period, working Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm with a 1-hour unpaid break, offering an hourly rate of £14.00–£15.00 per hour depending on experience.
Reporting directly to the Production Manager, this role sits within an exciting and rapidly developing sector and plays a key part in delivering a critical first production run of a newly designed product. You will lead a mixed team of Production Operators and Production Technicians while remaining actively involved on the production floor, promoting a strong focus on safety, quality, structure, and on-time delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident, practical leader to join a close-knit team within a business that continues to grow day by day and offers long-term progression.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Coordination
- Lead, supervise, and support a team of Production Operators and Production Technicians
- Manage day-to-day production activities for teams typically ranging from 2 to 10 people
- Allocate tasks and balance workloads to meet production priorities and deadlines
- Act as the first point of escalation for technical, quality, and safety issues
- Coach and support team members to maintain consistent standards of workmanship
- Promote a disciplined, safe, and collaborative working environment
- Actively participate in mechanical and/or electromechanical assembly activities
- Use specialist and precision hand tools, including torque screwdrivers and calibrated tools
- Ensure all work is completed in line with engineering drawings and work instructions
- Carry out in-process checks and final build reviews where required
- Ensure safe working practices are followed at all times
- Reinforce adherence to defined and emerging production processes
- Support inspection, documentation, and traceability requirements
- Identify process gaps, risks, or inefficiencies and provide constructive feedback
- Promote a right-first-time, quality-focused culture on the production floor
Skills Required:
- Strong technical background in mechanical and/or electromechanical assembly
- Proven experience leading or supervising teams in a production or workshop environment
- Confidence using specialist and precision hand tools
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions
- Calm, structured, and pragmatic approach to problem-solving
- Strong communication skills with the ability to lead by example
Qualifications Required:
- Experience within low-volume, high-mix or bespoke manufacturing environments
- Exposure to pressure testing, electrical testing, or controlled lifting operations
- Familiarity with quality systems, traceability, or regulated manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting first-of-type or first production runs
