Financial Communications, Associate Director

Teneo is looking for an experienced Associate Director (AD) to join our Financial Communications team.
The role will be, in part, focused on supporting some existing private capital clients and supporting the commercial development in private markets more broadly. Previous experience working with private capital firms is essential. Applicants should be intellectually curious, financially literate, creative, collaborative and eager to learn, with strong commercial acumen.
As an Associate Director you will be responsible for making a significant contribution to our reputation, profitable growth and client retention. You will lead client accounts, support teams to deliver to the highest standards, inspire new thinking, and take an active role in retaining and developing our best talent.
ADs manage and coach our Senior Consultants, Consultants and Associate Consultants and work into and learn from our Managing Directors, with the structure of each team varying based on our scope and clients’ needs.
Teneo is an integrated communications consultancy, providing all aspects of strategic counsel to business leaders and CEOs. This role is primarily to support Teneo’s financial communications clients across the TMT sector, joining a thriving team helping to shape company narratives and influence how major corporate news flow lands with key capital markets audiences to achieve strategic objectives. Our work is wide-ranging and includes equity story development, financial calendar communications, executive profiling, IPOs, restructurings and M&A transactions, crisis management, media relations and ESG, stewardship and governance issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading large integrated teams to deliver strategies that have impact for our clients
- Establishing long-term senior client relationships through valued, strategic counsel
- Actively driving growth with existing clients and via new business lead generation
- Providing market insight and intelligence through media and industry networking
- Client servicing, profitability, forecasting and budgeting
- Proactively contributing to and fostering a knowledge-sharing environment with clients and colleagues
- Innovating on behalf of clients and the Financial Communications team, challenging the status quo with new thinking, new product development, and new ways of working
- Encouraging, inspiring and motivating teams through mentoring and coaching
Skills and Experience
- 7+ years’ experience of working in a senior role in financial communications / IR advisory or in-house
- Financially literate with excellent working knowledge of financial reporting and corporate transactions
- Excellent understanding of financial markets and business media
- Proven track record in retaining clients and maintaining client relationships
- Effective media and City network and engagement capability
- Ability to anticipate client needs and shape and deliver strategic advice to senior level clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills & effective presenting skills
- Proven business development experience and ability to cultivate and convert new business leads
- Well informed and knowledgeable on market trends
- Seen as a credible 'voice' to both client and internal stakeholders alike
- Collaborative approach, able to foster good working relationships and work well under pressure
- Strong team leader who creates high-performing and motivated teams
- Experience supporting others’ career development through mentoring and coaching
- Excellent time management and the ability to prioritise a varied workload
- Comfortable taking the lead on driving performance and revenue
