Company Shop Group (CSG), part of Biffa, is the largest commercial redistributor of surplus food and household products in the UK. We enable some of the biggest retailers, manufacturers, food service and logistics providers to unlock value from surplus stock, which may have otherwise gone to waste. The surplus we handle is redistributed through our Company Shop stores and our award-winning social enterprise Community Shop where we build stronger individuals and more confident communities.
Details of Location and Shift Pattern:
- Salary: £13.10 per hour, paid on a 4 weekly basis
- Location: Community Shop – 31-32 Fawcett Street, Hendon, Sunderland, SR1 1RE
- Hours: Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 3pm, totalling 25 hours per week
Note: The successful candidate will undergo an enhanced DBS check.
As a Chef Assistant, you will be at the heart of our culinary operations, ensuring that every dish is prepared with care and served with a smile. From chopping vegetables to serving customers, you will be an integral part of our team, creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. This role also entails supporting the Chef Educator in organising Community Kitchen programs and community-driven projects aimed at meeting community needs through our personal and community development initiative, The What If Plan. You will play a vital role in preparing and serving delicious food to our members while upholding the highest standards of customer service and food safety.
Requirements:
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Confident Lone Worker with the ability to work independently with confidence.
- Proficient in Food Production, being able to demonstrate competence in producing high-quality food offerings with confidence and skill.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Flexibility to perform a variety of duties as needed.
- Passion for making a positive impact in the community.
- Level 1 Food Hygiene and Food Safety certification required.
- Previous experience in a kitchen environment preferred but not essential.
