We are a unique, small, rural 11-16 academy in the beautiful setting of North-West Worcestershire. Our pupils are happy, well behaved and proud of their school. The academy has a strong vein of moral purpose where the child is at the heart of all we do. We invest in our pupils and our staff to ensure all are supported to be the best they can be.
We are looking for a driven and committed practitioner to teach Design Technology/3D Design at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. This is a popular subject throughout the 7 -11 curriculum. Pupils at KS4 currently follow the AQA 3D Design specification but we have traditionally taught AQA GCSE DT Resistant Materials. We are open to conversations about course choices with the successful candidate. However, we are currently committed to a 3D Design group in both year 10 and year 11 from September 2026 and a KS3 curriculum that follows the national curriculum.
The post sits within the Create Faculty consisting of Design Technology, Art, Music, and Food and Nutrition. The team are experienced, collaborative and passionate about providing the best possible provision for the children at Tenbury High. The faculty is committed to delivering a curriculum in which practical and creative learning sits at the heart of lesson planning. The teacher will plan and deliver increasingly challenging projects that develop problem solving working with a variety of materials. Pupils learn a broad subject knowledge that incorporates Maths, Science, Engineering and Art. We, of course, use the technology that is now common in the engineering and design world but there is still a focus on the traditional handmade skills that establishes a solid foundation.
Design Technology is a rigorous subject that gives the pupils the opportunity to become resilient, risk taking and enterprising citizens. They will study the work of others and understand how design is developed through people’s views and specific needs. Pupils who study Design Technology can go on to make a massive contribution to the creativity, wealth and culture of the world. The facilities and resources within the faculty are excellent. The post holder would work with a dedicated faculty technician. We have fantastic specialist classrooms for the delivery of this course. A graphics room with adjoining workshop and access to a computer suite with CAD software for every student. Our facilities are fully kitted out for wood, metal, plastic and CAD CAM projects. We have a forge, lathes, laser cutter and brazing hearth as well as ceramics facilities including a kiln, potter’s wheel and 3D printers. The faculty classrooms are all located together and create a thriving creative environment that is very popular with our students. The resources and learning environment allows for ambitious and challenging project briefs to be tackled by all students.
About the Academy: Our academy is a popular choice for children with special and additional learning needs. Numbers of pupils on roll with an EHCP or in receipt of SEN support are above local and national averages. The SEN team consists of our SENCO who leads a committed and dedicated growing support team including TAs, Assistant SENCOs and two apprentices. This team contributes significantly to the provision for all children but, in particular, for those with special and additional needs, working alongside teachers and pastoral support to ensure the very best care and provision for some of our most vulnerable children.
