Our teacher training sets you on the path to becoming an excellent teacher. One who will inspire the next generation to succeed.
We have partnered with educational charity the Ambition Institute to deliver this 12-month intensive teacher training programme. This partnership combines expert knowledge from our schools with Ambition’s first-class curriculum, developed by educational experts, many of whom are former teachers with first-hand experience in the classroom.
Here are five reasons why you should join our teaching training programme:
- Train in one school: You’ll do most of your training in one of our schools. This gives you immediate opportunities to put the theory you’ve learned into practice in a classroom, supported by expert teachers.
- Be guided by a fully trained mentor: To ensure you’re supported throughout your training; we match you with an experienced teacher who will guide you every step of the way.
- Benefit from blended learning: You’ll get the high-quality academic training you\’d expect to get from a university combined with immersive, classroom learning.
- Become a qualified teacher. After successfully completing the programme, you’ll achieve qualified teacher status (QTS), and a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) enabling you to start your career in teaching right away.
- Earn a decent salary. Teachers earn a starting salary of at least £30,000, with head teachers earning upwards of £120,000 in some schools. Teachers are also entitled to a substantial pension and generous holidays.
To be eligible, you will need:
- An undergraduate bachelor\’s degree with honours, generally 2:2 or above, or equivalent.
- A GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and maths, or equivalent.
- Primary school trainees will need a GCSE grade 4/C or above in science, or equivalent.
- You must have Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the training programme. Unfortunately, Ambition Institute cannot sponsor your visa.
Location:
You will do most of your training in one of our placement schools from across Kent and East Sussex, which we will carefully match you with. Our professional development sessions are held at Bennett Memorial Diocesan School in Tunbridge Wells, which includes a weekly afternoon meeting.
Funding:
Tuition fees
Tuition fees for our Teacher Training programme are £9,250 for full-time study and £12,500 for part-time study. You can apply for government funding to cover the costs of your tuition fees.
Maintenance loan for 2024 to 2025
You may also decide to apply for a maintenance loan of up to £13,022 to help you with your living costs. You can do this even if you already have a student loan, regardless of whether you get a teaching bursary or scholarship. You will then only have to make loan repayments once you are earning.
