Looking for a compliance role where you can make a real impact? Our client is an established and growing financial services business operating within the foreign exchange sector. They are seeking an experienced Compliance Officer & Deputy MLRO to play a key role in protecting the business, supporting regulatory compliance and helping to deliver an outstanding client experience.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced compliance professional who enjoys balancing regulatory excellence with commercial awareness. Working closely with the Head of Compliance & MLRO, you'll become a trusted adviser across the business while taking ownership of day-to-day AML operations and acting as Deputy MLRO when required.
The Role
This is a broad and varied position covering financial crime, regulatory compliance, AML operations and risk management. You'll work across the full client lifecycle while helping to ensure the business continues to meet its FCA regulatory obligations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deputy MLRO & Financial Crime
- Acting as Deputy MLRO, providing cover and support for the Head of Compliance & MLRO
- Assessing internal suspicious activity reports and escalating or reporting where appropriate
- Supporting the firm's wider financial crime framework and AML controls
- Client Onboarding & Due Diligence
- Managing the end-to-end onboarding process for both private and corporate clients
- Conducting customer due diligence (CDD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD)
- Applying a risk-based approach to Know Your Customer (KYC) processes
- Managing periodic reviews and ensuring client records remain up to date
- Transaction Monitoring & Risk
- Reviewing transactions to identify potential financial crime risks
- Monitoring sanctions screening and investigating alerts
- Supporting fraud prevention controls and payment verification processes
- Ensuring transactions remain consistent with customer profiles and regulatory expectations
- Regulatory Compliance
- Supporting Consumer Duty and wider FCA compliance requirements
- Assisting with regulatory reporting and returns
- Helping maintain policies, registers and compliance documentation
- Supporting complaints handling and governance processes
- Operational Resilience
- Assisting with business continuity planning and operational resilience activities
- Supporting third-party due diligence and supplier oversight
- Contributing to regulatory change projects and ongoing compliance improvements
About You
You’ll already have experience working within compliance or financial crime in an FCA-regulated environment and will be confident applying regulation in a practical, commercial way. We’re looking for someone with:
- At least three years' experience within compliance, AML or financial crime in an FCA-regulated organisation
- Strong working knowledge of UK AML regulations, financial crime legislation and FCA requirements
- Hands-on experience of customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence and transaction monitoring
- Experience investigating and documenting suspicious activity
- Excellent judgement and the confidence to make well-reasoned decisions
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, accurate reports and documentation
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- A collaborative approach combined with the confidence to challenge where necessary
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel
Desirable
- Previous experience as a Deputy MLRO or MLRO
- An AML or compliance qualification (such as ICA, ACAMS or CISI)
- Experience within payments, foreign exchange or other regulated financial services
- Knowledge of safeguarding, Consumer Duty or operational resilience requirements
