The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our client, as the business continues its impressive growth journey, they are looking for a capable and hands-on Finance Officer to become a key member of their close-knit finance team. Working closely with the Finance Director, you'll take ownership of day-to-day financial operations while playing an important role in maintaining robust financial controls, delivering accurate reporting and supporting strategic decision-making. This is a varied role that combines operational finance with broader business involvement, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both detail and responsibility.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing day-to-day accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger
  • Leading monthly close processes, reconciliations and supporting analysis
  • Assisting with management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
  • Preparing VAT returns and supporting audit and compliance activities
  • Providing financial analysis and insights to support business decisions
  • Supporting process improvements across finance operations
  • Acting as a trusted deputy to the Finance Director when required

About You

You'll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience in a finance or accounting environment, managing processes up to and including month end. Comfortable working independently, you'll combine strong technical expertise with excellent organisational skills and a proactive, solutions-focused approach. Experience with payroll, financial reporting and stakeholder engagement is essential, while exposure to international operations would be an advantage.

This role is offered on a part-time basis of 20 hours per week, ideally spread across Monday to Friday during office hours. The position is office-based in Bishop's Stortford, with flexibility around the daily working pattern (i.e., hours could be worked over 3 days), making it an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional seeking a role that offers both responsibility and work-life balance.
