As Commercial Manager, you'll take ownership of the commercial performance of projects from contract award through to final account, ensuring projects are delivered profitably and contractual obligations are met. Working closely with the Pre-Construction, Project Management and Operations teams, you'll have considerable autonomy and play an important role in managing commercial risk, protecting margins and supporting the continued success of the business.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of project budgets, cost plans, profitability and commercial performance across multiple projects.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), cashflow forecasts and monthly commercial reports.
- Managing client valuations, variations and final account negotiations, ensuring commercial opportunities are identified and maximised.
- Reviewing contracts, identifying commercial risks and supporting contract negotiations.
- Working closely with Project Managers to monitor expenditure, manage change and resolve commercial challenges throughout project delivery.
- Supporting procurement, negotiating subcontractor and supplier packages and managing subcontractor commercial performance.
- Providing meaningful commercial analysis, forecasts and recommendations to the Operations Director and senior leadership team.
- Helping to strengthen commercial processes, controls and best practice across the business.

We're looking for an experienced, commercially astute professional who enjoys taking ownership, building relationships and working collaboratively to achieve excellent results. You'll bring:
- Experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager within the construction industry.
- A strong track record of managing project budgets, profitability, forecasting, valuations, variations and final accounts.
- Sound knowledge of construction contracts, commercial governance and risk management.
- Experience producing accurate commercial reports and providing financial insight to senior management.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to work effectively with clients, subcontractors and internal teams.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
- Good IT skills, particularly Excel, and experience using project or document management systems.
- A full UK driving licence.
Experience in commercial fit-out, workplace interiors or design and build projects would be particularly welcome, as would familiarity with JCT contracts and construction management platforms such as Procore. Professional accreditation, such as MRICS or MCIOB, would be advantageous but isn't essential. Above all, you'll be someone who combines commercial expertise with a collaborative approach and enjoys being part of a business where people work together to deliver outstanding results.
Terms
- Salary: Up to £90,000 FTE, pro rata if working part-time hours.
- Location: Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Office-based, with excellent transport links and plenty of free on-site parking.
- Hours: From 30 hours per week up to full-time. The business offers flexibility around working patterns, with part-time hours potentially spread over four or five days. Earlier start and finish times are also possible, allowing you to structure your working day around other commitments.
