A multi-office law firm in the North West are looking for a locum to help out with industrial disease work starting as soon as you are able for a period of around 3-6 months. You will need to be either a solicitor or CILEx qualified for this one and be able to handle a caseload of industrial and occupational disease claims with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have experience of most or all of the following:
- asbestos-related disease, including mesothelioma and asbestosis;
- noise-induced hearing loss;
- occupational asthma and dermatitis;
- repetitive strain and other occupational disease claims;
- limitation, breach, exposure, medical causation and quantum issues;
- multi-defendant claims, contribution and apportionment;
- historic employer and insurer investigations;
- reviewing medical and engineering evidence;
- drafting pleadings, witness evidence and advice on liability, causation, tactics and settlement;
- insurer reporting, reserve recommendations and working within delegated authority arrangements; and
- management of both pre-litigation and litigated claims through to settlement or trial.
Either full or part-time hours will be considered although you will need to be available for a minimum of 3 days each week. You will need to attend the firm's offices initially although hybrid working will be available once you are familiar with the software systems.
