The Finance Director will play a critical role in supporting business and operational repositioning, delivering sustainable growth, strengthening governance, and enabling the business to scale successfully.
This is a board-level leadership role. The Finance Director will act as a strategic commercial partner to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team. The role combines hands-on financial leadership and management combined with commercial modelling and strategic commercial insight. You will shape the commercials to support the growth strategy, support the CEO with investor relationships, and ensure strong financial foundations as the business expands.
This role operates on a hybrid working model, typically 3 days per week in the office near Liverpool Street Station and 2 days working from home. As a senior leader, you will be expected to attend key in person meetings, including Senior Leadership Team meetings on Mondays, Board meetings, investor meetings, and other critical business forums as required.
Core PurposeAct as the strategic commercial partner to the CEO and form a key part of the Senior Leadership Team alongside the CEO and Chief of Staff. Support the CEO and the Board to enable high-quality commercial decision-making through robust operational, financial and consumer insight – through understanding the business we are in. Lead business modelling and data reporting, pricing strategy, budgeting, remuneration modelling and long-term financial planning. Demonstrate a deep understanding of Ten's purpose, brand and operating model and translate this into commercially sustainable growth. Build, lead and develop high-performing teams, setting clear expectations and driving accountability – bring the established team with you. Ensure excellence in financial administration, reporting accuracy, timeliness and cost control. Drive commercial accountability across the organisation by ensuring leaders understand the financial impact of their decisions and that these decisions are aligned with the budget. Identify and optimise the key value drivers of the business to ensure sustainable profitability and differentiation. Overview of the RoleThe Finance Director will lead and develop the Finance function during a critical phase of growth and expansion. The role combines strategic financial leadership with hands-on operational oversight to ensure strong governance, commercial clarity, and scalable processes across the Ten Health and Fitness group. Working closely with the CEO and Board, the Finance Director will provide clear financial guidance, strengthen reporting and controls, and support the business in achieving sustainable growth and long-term value creation. This is a senior leadership role requiring both strategic thinking and operational execution in a fast-paced multi-site environment.

Key responsibilities include:- Lead the day-to-day financial operations of the business, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and financial stability.
- Oversee the month-end process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting supported by clear commercial insight for the Board.
- Provide commercial analysis to support strategic decision making, including utilisation, pricing, margin and cost optimisation.
- Oversee CAPEX planning and delivery to ensure new sites are opened on time and within budget.
- Maintain strong relationships with investors, banks, auditors, landlords and professional advisors.
- Lead financial modelling for new site openings, franchise growth, acquisitions or new builds.
- Own forecasting and cash flow management to ensure liquidity and strategic flexibility.
- Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with Heads of Department.
- Oversee management reporting, including P&L, balance sheet, KPI reporting and board packs.
- Maintain strong internal financial controls and risk management frameworks.
- Lead investor reporting and support funding and refinancing activities as required.
- Ensure full financial and tax compliance, including oversight of VAT submissions.
- Strengthen financial governance and reporting to support long-term growth and future investment opportunities.
- Provide data-driven market and consumer insight to inform commercial strategy.
Lead and develop the Finance team, setting clear expectations and driving accountability. Work closely with department heads to ensure financial performance aligns with business targets. Partner closely with HR on payroll oversight, workforce cost forecasting and remuneration modelling.
Technology and Systems OversightDrive continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting tools and automation. Champion the use of technology and AI to improve efficiency, insight and scalability.

Essential:
- Qualified accountant ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent.
- Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role.
- Board-level exposure with investor engagement experience.
- Experience in multi-site, multi-service businesses.
- Experience within PE or VCT-backed environments.
- Strong analytical capability with exceptional numerical accuracy.
- Ability to operate strategically while remaining hands-on as required.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to engage confidently with investors and external stakeholders and wider team, including non-financially cognisant teams.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver on deadlines.
- A track record of improving systems, processes and financial controls.
- Experience supporting acquisitions or business expansion projects.
- Ability to negotiate leases and landlord management.
Desirable:
- Background in consumer-focused service-led industry - wellbeing, health and fitness, leisure or hospitality.
- Experience within a growing entrepreneurial business.
- Exposure to or understanding of franchise models.
- Experience with MBO, Xero & Monday.
- Strong interest in technology, automation and the use of AI to improve financial operations.
