Our client, a busy Local Authority in Southeast London, is looking for an experienced Tenancy Support Officer to join their team and play a crucial role in tenancy services operations.

Rate: £23.28 per hour (Umbrella)

Contract Duration: Temp (Sep 2026) Possible Extension

Working Arrangement: Hybrid

Purpose: Assist and support the New Builds tenancy enforcement officer in managing a large volume of new tenants presenting with variable support needs. Ensure support is in place for successful management and sustainment of the tenancy, offering a holistic and supportive approach to tenants with additional needs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for referrals for support and providing tailored support to a caseload of vulnerable tenants following tenancy start-up.
  • Refer tenants to other Council and health services, including social services, psychiatric services, and drug/alcohol agencies.
  • Undertake risk assessments of current and future tenants, particularly those with histories of mental illness and/or substance abuse problems.
  • Liaise closely with other agencies involved with tenants and ensure relevant Council departments are advised of new cases and details of support provision.
  • Support tenants to raise orders for routine and discretionary repairs in accordance with Council procedures and adhere to budget limits.
  • Monitor rent accounts ensuring regular payments are made to reduce arrears; keep tenants on arrears agreements and work closely with the income teams to address rent arrears.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
  • Working knowledge of changes in legislation in housing and support services.
  • Experience and knowledge of current welfare benefits and housing benefits.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
