Our client, a busy Local Authority in West London, is looking for an experienced Private Housing Standards Officer to join their team and play a crucial role in their environment operations.
Rate: £31.24 per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Contract Duration: Temp (Sep 2026) Possible Extension
Working Arrangement: Hybrid
Purpose
To contribute to improving the quality of the private sector housing stock and ensure the sector can fulfil its potential in meeting housing need in the Borough. You will directly improve private sector dwelling conditions across the Borough through a variety of informal and formal enforcement action and policy development.
Job Responsibilities
- Investigate complaints of poor private sector housing conditions and provide technical and directed advice to resolve matters.
- Where possible and appropriate, work cooperatively with landlords to ensure required standards are met and housing conditions improved where required.
- Investigate reports of poor housing conditions in HMOs and monitor compliance with the council’s adopted housing standards and national legislation (HHSRS & Housing Management Regulations) and take enforcement action as required.
- Carry out property surveys and inspections of complex buildings, make assessments under the Housing Health & Safety Rating System and prepare schedules of work where necessary.
Job Requirements
- Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to Private Sector Housing, requirements of the Housing Act 2004 and how they affect Houses in Multiple Occupation.
- Experience of undertaking Housing Health and Safety Rating System Assessments.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
