Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy Local Authority in Hampshire, are looking for an experienced Principal Auditor to join their team and play a crucial role in their operations.
Position: Principal Auditor
Rate: £475 per day (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Contract Duration: Temporary (April 2026) with Possible Extension
Job Purpose: Audit & Counter Fraud fulfils a statutory requirement to advise, alert and assure the Council on the effectiveness of its systems of internal control. This means focussing on key risks that prevent objectives being achieved, the controls needed to mitigate the risks, and how effectively the controls are working.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with delivering the Audit and Counter Fraud Service to the Council and external clients (neighbouring authorities).
- Work closely with all levels of officers and members within the relevant Council.
- Gain an in-depth knowledge of the strategic direction of the relevant Council and the issues it faces.
- Advise on the effective management of risk exposure and the internal control framework.
- Carry out original research on new auditing techniques in relation to data analysis and lead in this area.
Job Requirements:
- Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
- At least 1 year experience within a Principal Auditor role or equivalent.
- A professional accounting or auditing qualification and Membership.
- Demonstrate knowledge & experience of compliance with the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards (PSIAS).
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in conducting audits on a variety of areas including contract auditing.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
