Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in Bradford, is looking for a Payroll Officer to join their organisation.

Job Role: Payroll Officer

Temporary or Permanent: Temp

Possible End Date: Until May 2026 (possible extension)

Number of Positions: 2 positions available

Location: Bradford

Office Based/Hybrid: TBC

Rate of Pay: Β£18 p/h umbrella

Main duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the prompt processing of all payroll related conditions of service issues to agreed deadlines including but not limited to salaries, increments, pay awards, overpayments, expenses and allowances in accordance with the relevant local arrangements, legislation and audit key controls.
  • Accurately operate and advise on the use of the SAP system in payroll contexts.
  • Assist in the instruction and on the job training of staff which may involve individual development training and support with new or less experienced members of staff.
  • Ensure that any overpayments are processed efficiently, effectively and according to set policies to allow for timely recovery.
  • Report any suspicions of irregular or fraudulent activity to the Payroll Team Leader for appropriate action.
  • Assist in the development of systems and procedures which act as a source of both accurate and efficient payroll processing in order to produce management information.

Job Requirements:

  • At least 2 years experience working as a Payroll Officer or equivalent.
  • Ability to carry out a variety of working practices, applying complex regulations, rules, procedures and processes across a technical/specialist area.
  • Ability to adopt a process of continual improvement and suggest ways of working more efficiently and effectively to improve service delivery.
  • Understand the legislation and requirements of the HMRC in relation to employee pay and pension options.
  • Ability to calculate from Gross pay to Net pay, taking into account all statutory and voluntary deductions.
