Job Description
- Supporting fee earners and solicitors by preparing costs schedules where required, including EPA cases.
- Drafting legal costs for court hearings relating to statutory nuisance claims under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
- Drafting and negotiating legal costs for housing disrepair and associated breach of contract claims.
- Liaising with fee earners and solicitors regarding costs on concluded matters.
- Assisting with the recovery of legal costs following the successful resolution of cases.
- Supervising junior costs paralegals who provide support to the in‑house Costs Team.
- Supporting the enforcement of payment of legal costs and/or damages where required, although this is not essential.
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Carrying out additional duties as required to support the smooth running of the team and the wider business.
The Successful Candidate
- Approximately 2 or more years’ experience in legal costs drafting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to work accurately at pace.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
- Experience working in a busy, deadline‑driven environment.
- IT literacy and confidence using costs or case management systems.
- Previous experience using costs management software, with Costs Master preferred.
- A proactive, flexible, and team‑focused approach to work.
