Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy local authority in East London, are looking for an experienced Licensing Lawyer to join their team and play a crucial role in their Licensing operations.

Position: Licensing Lawyer

Rate: £55 per hour (Umbrella)

Contract Duration: 6 Months Possible Extension

Working Arrangement: Hybrid

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear, accurate, and pragmatic legal advice to client officers, senior management, and Licensing Committees on complex and routine licensing issues.
  • Prepare complex reports and attend evening Licensing Sub-Committee hearings to provide live legal, procedural, and governance advice to elected Members.
  • Represent the Local Authority in Magistrates’ Court appeals, tribunals, and contested licensing review hearings where required.
  • Efficiently manage a high-volume, demanding caseload using our legal case management system, achieving the required annual target of 1,200 chargeable hours while adhering to Lexcel standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Qualified Legal Professional: Solicitor or Barrister (qualified to practise in England & Wales) or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX).
  • Licensing Expertise: Proven experience managing a caseload of routine and complex licensing matters within local government or private practice.
  • Local Authority Governance: Sound understanding of local government decision-making, administrative law, public law principles, and the political sensitivity required when advising Members and committees.
