Are you eager to land a brand new role? Our client, a busy Local Authority in Northwest London, are looking for an experienced Debt Recovery Team Leader to join their team and play a crucial role in their debt recovery operations.
Position: Debt Recovery Team Leader
Rate: £33.67 per hour (Umbrella, Inside IR35)
Contract Duration: Temporary (Sep 2026) Possible Extension
Purpose:
- Assist with management of the recovery of one or more debt portfolios (e.g. Housing Benefit Overpayments, Adult Social Care, Sundry Debt), ensuring effective, timely and consistent collection activity.
- Ensure all recovery activity meets legislative requirements, case law and Council policies, safeguarding the Council’s financial position and minimising risk of loss or legal challenge.
- Implementing operational plans in line with the Council’s Debt Recovery Strategy, driving improved recovery outcomes and effective bad debt management.
- Lead a team of recovery staff to achieve high performance through coaching, mentoring, supervision and proactive management of performance, conduct and attendance in line with corporate policies.
- Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation.
- At least 1 year experience within a Housing Officer role or equivalent.
- Knowledge of debt recovery processes and procedures including court and legal processes.
- Awareness of legislation affecting the recovery of Housing Benefit Overpayments and/or Adult Social Care and/or Sundry Debt and/or any other debt recovery portfolio managed within local government.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
